I have been working on this idea for a while now, and finally got my caliper bracket custom machined and mocked up on the car today.

now that's bad ass....you need to come up with that idea for quick fits on other models.....yum

yeh i know paint on the rotors is just to hide the surface rust. The rotors had been sitting on the shelf for a year. I need them to look cool for the pics last night. I am taking them to the shop today to clean them up.
Nothing wrong with upgrades, the last time I mentioned it people had wide opinions of whether the 3 really needs it..
I want to put together a kit that works good and doesn't cost near as much as the kits I have see.
I am still working on the correct brake hose then I can complete the install and test it out.

cost?

keep in mind I sourced my brake parts wholesale, however at auto zone loaded calipers with pads and brackets, and 2 new rotors are under $400.00 and I have about $500.00 in the brackets and a used 3 steering knuckle for $70.00 for the mock up at the shop . That and my time which is worthless if you ask my friends, still cheaper than anything i have found online. The cost of the brackets is high, but anytime you have a one off anything custom machined you have to pay to play...I haven't worked out a price on a per pair price for a larger run....I thought I should work out any bugs before I worry about that.
Who has a spare MSP knuckle I can work with..

When I mocked them up on my MSP a year ago, the idea was met with less than enthusiastic responses.

This is basically the same setup that Bear Racing uses on like all their kits.

Next autocross is Sunday, hopefully we will see if all that work is worth it. You're driving a basically new car with all those mods!

some people don't like change or 'different' i welcome it

i think the reason for the comment of prepare for flaming is cause this isnt actually a big brake kit.

If im not mistaken its a bigger rotor with a bracket that moves the caliper out more.

Doesn't look horrible but with you painting the rotor it might look a lil silly once the paint wears away where the rotor and pad meet.

but gj though

On the car

Well your right about it not being a kit...this is a one off idea that has finally come full circle.. Today is Wed April 29, 2009 and the new brakes are installed.
The bracket does move the caliper out to clear the new larger rotor, however the new rotor and caliper are both off a 97 Ford Cobra Mustang..In order for this to become a kit I would have to have enough interest in it to have my machinist run off a batch of brackets.. The idea was to use off the shelf parts that anyone can get at any parts store excluding the adapter mounting brackets. Spending $1300.00 for bigger brakes is hard on everyone, but what if you could do it for around 600 0r 700 maybe less....That's more of what the average joe might buy..
The car is out on the road getting some miles to seat in the brakes for Sunday autoX I can't wait.

Initial thought Brakes feel good, solid pedal.

So after this weekend's event, I can totally vouch for this! This car stops amazingly well. We switched cars on our last runs and I ran 2.1 seconds faster in the 3 than I did in my MSP! That's a base model 2.0...

Oh yeah, the TOyo R1Rs are awesome tires as well!
