12V Power Supply

I've been trying to find where I can connect in to a power source, but I haven't been able to. Where can I connect into a 12 volt source and a ground? I tried looking at tapping into the cigarette lighter, but I can't get behind there very easily, and thought there might be an easier way.

Depending on what you're actually going to hook up, you can tap into the radio harness.

Blue/Red wire is your +12
Black is your ground

As usual, always test your wires before you tap into them.

Theoretically could I not tap into any circuit? As long as the circuit turns on when I want my lights I'm installing to turn on. For example, if I wanted them to turn on with my interior lights, I would plug them into that fuse?

It all depends on the load ur putting on the fuse, if it is a high drain device ur gonna keep poppin the fuse, by replacing the fuse with a larger fuse ur riskin what ever was hooked up before hand. As for tappin the deck wire don't you will run into issues down the line.

Go to auto zone they sell a clip that alows u to tap into the fuse it self. If not run it from the battery directly with an inline fuse and a switch.

oh for the easiest to access 12v supply use the fuse box in the drivers side foot well. The ciggarette lighter isa b**** to get to.

it depends on what you want to hook up.

there is also a 12v source on the steering wheel column

what are you trying to hook up? That can be a big factor as to where to get your power source. Tell me what it is and I'll give you a good spot to tap into.

This is a super old thread but I'm running into the same question hard wiring a radar detector. I plan to use a fuse splitter or fuse tap if I can use one of the empty fuse spots. Are all the fuses 12v? I have 0 experience with car electrical

I've kinda been wondering the same thing. My car already has a cord of some sort hardwired in inside the center console. If I can find the right adapter I could use it for a phone charger. What do you guys think it would be wired to?

Yes all car electrical is 12v. But you gotta see if the circuit is constant (i.e. on even when the car is shut off) or switched (i.e. turns on only when the car is on).
