Finally you can watch HD tv in the way they were meant to be seen. 1920x1080. Can't wait for the blue ray and hd dvds to hit the market, more reason to avoid movie theaters.

My projector says it's recieving a 1920x1080 signal. I'm not if it is or not but it still looks amazing. I'll be watching MNF tonite in HD! In a couple years Hd will be like cell phones....how did we ever live without it.

you would have to have one very $$$$$$ make that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ projector to see 1080p.

I'm guessing it's not true 1080 and it's down converting it to 480p or something. What PJ you have?

Well the projectors themselves arent that much, but the supporting equipment like the reciever and proccessor cost a ton. Having said that, yeah most likely not actually a 1080 signal unless you just have the best of Dwin and a very high end reciever.

I'm not sure what signal I'm actaully getting but when I turn to HD channels it reports a 1920x1080 signal. ???

ok i'm moving at the end of the month. My living room is kind of small (17 x 12) so I want to get a flat panel. If I hang it over the fireplace, I will get a plasma because the viewing angles of most of the LCD's i've seen don't really work to well because of how high I'd have to mount it. Due to the distance I have from the tv to put the couch, 37" is more than enough, anything else might be too big and the screen starts to look like i'm looking at it through a screen door. Would you:

a)buy a 37" Panasonic EDTV (TH-37PWD8UK) for $1600 w/ free shipping and have it right away?
b)wait a couple months to buy a 42" Panasonic HDTV for close to $2300? (since i don't think Panasonic will release a 37" plasma HDTV)
c)wait and hope prices go down after these 1080p's come out?
d)other?

d) Remove your fireplace and buy a projector to use on your new wall.

Biggest TV on the market would be the Mitsubishi Alpha 82" 1080p LCoS Rear-projection

Been on the market for over a full year now.

Not the most expensive, but it still costs more than a lot of cars at $20,000.

Largest plasma on the market is the Panasonic 65", $20,000, until the 71" LG, $45,000, comes out in the next month and then the 102" Samsung some time next year maybe. These will last until the flexible plasma units come out that won't have the glass panel limitations of the current units.

17x12 is what my projection room is. And I have a 110" diag. screen. But I'm shooting the 17' way. If you plan on shooting the 17' way, your going to need a big ass tv

Sorry to burst your bubbles dudes. There is no such thing as a 1080p signal from any broadcaster. At a time when everyone is struggling to get to 720p or 1080i, it'll be some time before 1080p hits. We've heard that 1080p is going to be utilized most by the new HD dvds.

We've had the Sharp 45" 1080p tv at our store for a few months now and the picture quality looks no different than any of the other tvs hanging beside it. That and the fact that few people want to pay the $7k pricetag when they can get the 1080i Samsung below it for $4k.

The biggest tv out now is a 105 or 107" plasma tv by either Samsung or LG, I think its LG.

goku4658:

There is a 37" HD Panasonic out, the TH-37PX50U, which we currently sell for $2400. Don't get an EDTV, its probably the biggest waste of money period. Better to wait than get inferior quality. Another suggestion, look at the Hitachi plasmas, yeah you'll pay a little more, but they blow the Panasonics away(unless you want to get the 42" $5k top of the line Panasonic)
