Heya,

Just found an awesome deal on two slightly used Alpine 10" Type-R's. Alpine SWR-1021D

2 for 100 bucks.

I'm looking into amplifiers and found the recommendation @ the $500 challenge. Alpine MRP-M450

I plan on keeping the stock HU. If I remember correctly the amp has speaker level inputs (so no need for a LOC). I dont have anything changed for front speakers, though that may be in order if the stock speakers dont hold up their end of hte bargain. I've never really done any serious audio work in-car...but I have a few friends (god that sounds like a bad start) who have, and owe me...so I plan on doing this in-house. I'd probably get the amp from crutchfield along with a wiring kit and a box.

Just wanted to make sure the combination would work. I have a feeling this setup is going to be way beyond my tastes (looking for a solid sound, mostly rock, NIN, heavy bass lines...occaisonal rap/techno) but for the price I couldnt really pass the subs up.
Would 1 10" cover that easily? Even if, say...I wanna bump the bass up and rock the block for 1 night out of hte month?

This is a green MnM humping a heel (humpleg)

Anywho, hope I've done enough searching to make this a semi-worthwhile post...if there's anything I need to know, read, learn about..lemme know. Thx!

After doing more investigation, I assumed my amp and subs combo would work. I recieved the amp, box and a LOC from crutchfield today.

So here are my new questions, that will probably go unanswered anyway:

With the 2 10" DVC subs (Alpine Type-R 1041D)...is this how the wiring should look?
Crutchfield wiring diagram

The next one concerns the amp turn on lead. From the Speaker Sizes, Harnesses, and Kits of all Mazdas! thread. It looks like my two options are wires 10 (Pink/Black: Switched Power) or 13 (Blue/Red: Constant Power). I'm pretty sure I need a 12v wire to turn the amp on, so I was just curious if I was barking up teh right tree on that one.

Anywho, I'd appreciate any responses/help anyone can give...even if its a few yes's or a link to a topic I should have read.

According to your link they are dual 2ohm subs so you want to wire the coils of each sub in series which would make each one a 4ohm, then wire them both in parallel to the amp which would give a final load of 2ohm, so ya that wire diagram is correct

You want to use the switched for remote.

I would have went with an amp with a little more power though

awesome, thx!

as for the amp, it says 400 watts @ 4 ohms...hopefully it'll be adequate, the price was right and the quality seemed good.

One more question that I forgot to list: since I'm going to be using a LOC and a mono-amp...I only need to splice into 1 set of speakers, right? Say, the RR door speaker. Is there any reason to use both rears with the LOC as opposed to using both speakers for the speaker level inputs?
