That is your budget. $10,000. What can you do with it?

I'm looking for a daily driver that needs very little maintenance. I was thinking of starting with a 2001 Protoge and trying to squeeze a supercharger into the budget.

I've heard I could probably find a 99 Civic Si within that budget, too. But that would leave me nothing to even start upgrading. However, 160 ponies for such light vehicle is pretty "peppy" to begin with.

What do you guys recommend? I'd love to have a blown Protoge, but I don't what platform to start with.

Well I recommend geting a EK Hatchback and putting in an H22 or something maybe a LS-R Engine. You can get those for pretty cheep. ANd they'll decimate a Civic Si

buy a used proteg(99-2000) then go to wagner motorsports and get a turbo, then blow-away alot of civics!!

I don't know if I can do a motor swap because I live in an apartment. Which means I don't have a garage. I know people who do, including a friend who has a shed specifically for working on his cars. But I doubt they'd let me keep mine in there while I swap engines.

But I'll try to keep that in mind.

92 civic hatch, gut the interior, run a lsvtec on low compression and turbo it, u will be putting down close to 300 whp.

Yea, because LS/VTEC motors are really reliable!

That really doesn't make for a daily driver, tho.

if you are looking for "very low maintenance", i would stay away from any engine swaps or aftermarket F/I. think about it.

and for $10k, "fast" and "reliable" are mutually exclusive.

you could look for a used Integra GS-R. or an F-body, but there goes your reliability. A pre-'97 Prelude. A MkIII VR6 GTi. MAYBE a Subie 2.5RS. a 240SX. an SVT Contour.

those are your best bets. good luck.

Buy 92-95 Civic Hatch

If I had 10 grand this is what i would do.

Buy civic hatch
get 1.6 single cam vtec motor
buy a drag turbo kit
buy a thicker head gasket to lower compression
by some 15 lightwieght rims w/tires
buy springs struts swaybars strut bars motor mounts inserts
clutch flywheel and lsd
do interior if you want.

My buddy has a stock 1.6 singe cam vtec with a custom turbo setup similar to drag with just 2mm greddy head gsket and arp head bolts. car runs 12.5s at 117mph, just to let you know 117mph is good for mid 11s in 1/4 mile he just needs some really good slicks, on the street it is sick to pull awy from z06 or camaro ss.
