I have an 06 speed6 and when i accelerate hard around 4000rpms sometimes i lose power and hear a sputter or popping from my borla exhaust can anyone please help me i am annoyed as hell and dont know how to stop this or what to do to fix it.

hks blowoff valve frontmount intercooler im pretty sure it has a turbo back exhaust, i bought it used with mods from a dealer it pushes around 19 psi at times so im pretty sure it has a boost controller of some sort. It seems to pop on warmer temp days. When its cool at night it doesnt seem to do this, but maybe it does and im just not realizing it.

do you have any cels. mine used to sputter like then i would get p0300(random misfire) from time to time. turns out my plugs were gapped wrong. if you need plugs by the denso itv22.

do u kno if it has been tuned? cobb ap or cpe ? cause with those mods u should defin be running some sort of tune

if it was flashed by a cobb ap it should have come with a little hand held unit. not too sure about the cpe one tho. maybe someone will chime in who has one

you said you have an HKS blow off valve. I'm guessing you have it venting to atmosphere. that right there will cause you to backfire when you let off the throttle.

the sputtering could also be from the spark plugs. i'd get some denso 1-step colder ones if i was you.

I used to deal with the same thing, and do on occasion still. I did all the fixes and I still had it. The only thing that has fixed the loss of power is the "driver mod". The popping is from VTA probably.

The loss of power is hitting the turbo lag, when you shift at WOT are you taking your foot all the way off the gas? If yes the FMIC adds even more lag when it loses all the boost. The power picks up again when the system is refilled.

I have smoother power now that I don't remove my foot all the way off the accel, not a full on power shift but I now feather the gas and the clutch to get the power down. Kind of a pain in the ass, but that's what I've had to do.

Check your sillicone hoses, especially at high boost levels these tend to dry rot and crack over time. Yes the car runs fine and low boost levels, but because its only low boost levels, the air is essentially is not leaking through the hairline cracks, but at higher boost levels these cracks open wider. That could be the reason of lose of power at the high rpm range. If your are running stock hoses and stock hose clamps upgrade all of them to hose clamp or better yet T-clamps. Your car will definitely hold boost better.

I have an 06 speed6 CPe intake, TMIC, Turbo back exhst, Upgraded hoses/piping, HKS BOV recirculating, and a stand back tuner. I changed the plugs to an Iridium NGK and that got rid of all my back firing until it got below 40 degrees again. With the setup I am running the car runs a little rich under boost (17.6 psi) causing it to sputter when it loads up under hard driving. Best way to get rid of it is to tune the computer to run just a tad leaner on the top end. Still fast than an 07 STI with an intake and cat back exhaust though doing 0-120!

That there was my problem when i was completely stock, With just the MS CAI. I disconnected all my silicone hoses and TMIC hoses and reconnected it back together. My problem was solved. :)

I had the same problem as TS, my car would sputter around 4000rpms and just felt like it had no power or like it had a Turbo underneath the hood and it did not feel like boost was coming in hard. I could of swear that my Mazda 6i felt quicker at the time, when my MS6 had this problem.
