06 mazda 5

I used to love when this happened on vwvortex.com.... Im assuming it wont have the same result but should still be interesting to watch. Post 1 is an engine swap question. Classic.

does anyone know if a mazda 3 engine will install in a mazda 5 and what will have to be changed?

Please be specific on your question. The mazda3 and Mazda5 already share the same 2.3L engine. Are you asking whether a "mazdaspeed" engine will install on a 5 or a mazda3 2.0L install on a 5?

This is the situation.I have a customer that has a 06 mazda 5 2.3 with a spun rod bearing. He is wanting to put a used engine init but cant find anything close. We have also looked for a crankshaft.their are 3 all in canada.Thats from the dealer.I cant find any aftermarket or remanufactured. All I have searched for is amazda 5 engine and had no luck.Is the mazda 3 longblock the same as the 5?Or does anyone have a source for a crankshaft?I've already bought one from a salvage yard in NJ its worse than the one I have. Both cranks are not able to be turned.Any help would be appreciated.

Holy hell. (headbang) Good luck, you're going to swap an entire engine?
You have the means to do so, lift, parts, tools, etc. ?

What other options does this friend have?

and you're sure it's just the crank shaft, no other damage was done?

Peace!(rei)

I own a auto repair shop.Actually the engine is very easy to swap.I already have the old engine out and the crankshaft out, trying to find parts is my problem.

Great, if I come across any parts places, I'll post them, in the mean time, I looked and can't find any on the web.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

what about any salvage yards, may have to buy a whole motor to get the one good part you need, but???

I think the REAL question is this: Will a 2.3L from a 3 accept engine managementfrom a 5? I have heard that the 2.3L is the same engine across these lines: 3,5,6,Tribute,Escape, though the SUVs apparantly take real oil filters, not inserts. Anyone can verify?

I would assume that if it is the same longblock, management shouldn't be an issue.

But rtiedt, how'd your customer blow the rod bearing? Defect? "What's an oil change?" Running above redline?

2.3 is the same engine from a long block standpoint. I would bet $100 that any 2.3 would work. Especially if only the shortblock is used. Perhaps the cams are different but that would be about it.

Well, leaving Washington DC today on I-395 South in the HOV lanes I got a very high RPM, shaking, blue smoke and nothing.......... I had to have the car towed from DC to Va Beach........ dropped it by the service center for them to check tomorrow morning........

2006 Mazda 5 2.3L 105,471 miles................

Does not sound good for the motor. I've got my fingers crossed for you, df. I have seen some crashed 5's listed on the internet. Might be a source for whatever parts you need to get her back on the road.

thanks KBrain, we'll see, I'm on my way to talk to the service department about her..........

This is becoming my new motto:
Hope for the best, expect the worst, accept whatever God gives me..........

I am a little nervous for you, however my fingers and toes are crossed!(attn)

For the very first time, I have seen a couple Mazda5's being sold in the last several months that needed engine replacements. (Rod out the side of block failure)

Well, got the bad news late Friday...... Blown engine, number 2 rod broke off and went thru the back wall……….

Repair shop showed me the engine, but also thinks he found the reason, at least he thinks is the reason; the wiring harness that runs down the passenger side of the engine was melted;

When I was driving on Thursday just outside DC it was raining cats and dogs and I got splashed by a Semi or large truck running down I-395, he really soaked me from the passenger side; I was running my cruise and the repair shop found my cruise was still engaged when the engine quit running. I remember the high rev of the engine but wasn't sure why, now we know. The repair shop believes that the deluge of water shorted out the control module of the car and caused the engine to redline, I didn't see it happen, but right after that Semi splashed me was when everything went; engine rev, shake and then blue smoke, then nothing.......

Going back in is a 2007 with 21,000 miles………

$1,100 for the engine and $600 for the work, I’ll let you guys know how things go…..

Sounds like something that could be covered under your auto insurance.

P.S. In case you were not aware, it is unsafe to use CC in rain/ice conditions. I would think twice about running your cruise control in the rain. (http://alerts.nationalsafetycommission.com/2009/03/hazards-of-driving-in-rain-with-cruise.php)

Sux to have to spend money on something you will not be able to appreciate, but things could always be worse, IMO.
Amortizing that 1700 bucks over the next few years of ownership could soften the financial blow.

BTW, I try to never accept anything that does not make me or my life better, and I hope God is accepting of my resorcefulness.

500TH POST!!!!
