'02 Protege ES or '02 Sentra SE-R???

consider the previous sentra se 2.0 (2000-2001 i think), it still had the sr20 engine which blows the protege and the new se-r engine out of the water
I thought the 1.8 sentra motor was SR20DE

no, Nissan includes the displacement in their engine codes. The 1.8 is QG18DE.

Yeah, I don't know mang (shrug)

2000 - 2003 Nissan Sentra 1.8 GXE (Engine: QG18DE). 2000 - 2001 Nissan Sentra 2.0 SE (Engine: SR20DE). 2002 - 2005 Nissan Sentra 2.5 SE-R (Engine: QR25DE

Edit: And yes, I did mean to put a comma between no and Nissan LOL.

Yeah the Sr20 engines are nice, but NO INDEPENDANT REAR SUSPENTION!

The SR20 is FAR from good enough to give up an Independant rear suspention.

Ive Raced SE-R's at the track and beat them on the regular (I came close to beating a Spec V in the 8th also, we literally crossed the line at the same time, but he was ever so slightly ahead of me (pissed) Sall Good though )

I raced a Guy with a Full exhaust line on it and a few other goodies he had the SE-R with the SR20DE (At the time I had only a CAI And Axl back) We Should be relitively the same weight, but he has more hp. We raced twice & I ate him up. He thought he launced bad the first race and asked for another run, I never have a issue with that so we lined up again, and I took him out a second time.

yea thats one of the things that I didnt like about sentra...it DOES NOT have independent rear suspension

I don't know.......my dad has an 02 sentra, just the 2.0l SE version, not even an SE-R. I love my protege, but my dad's car just feels tighter as far as the steering wheel to actual car turning ratio....if that even makes sense. My car feels better, but the power difference would be enough to sway me toward the SE-R. I go in a straight line on a daily basis a heck of a lot more than I take fast turns.

as long as it makes you happy man, thats all that counts. (thumb)

Me personally, I prefer hard turns, hehe.

Alright guys (and gals), most of you are way more technically savvy with cars than I am. I'm not a "car guy, per say. I just love to drive, and want a car that I can really enjoy. That being said, I know I really enjoy how the ES manual feels and handles, but I don't really know why it feels the way it does. In other words, I'm not entirely educated as to the advantage of Independant Suspension. Does the ES have this? I too prefer hard turns over straight ahead power. The ES has some pep to it, so I'm fine with the power it offers. The suspension is more of a priority for me.

The 3rd Gen Protege is one of the Best cornering cars in its class. Its a tuff rigid unibody With full independant suspention (Front and rear) & anty sway bars. This is All modles DX, LX & ES.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I'm up to speed with the independant suspension and its advantages. What do the Unibody and anti sway bars do for the car? Something to do with body lean during hard turns?

Yup the More rigid the body is (Our unibody) the less amount of body twist the car will display, & with the anty say bars they reduce body lean during cornering. This is to keep the car planted maximizing the use of all 4 tires for the best cornering results.

Lowering your car also helps by lowering the cars center of gravity and thus reducing the amount of weight transfer.

Uniboy cars and trucks as aposed to ladder chassis designs are lighter as its 1 peice and not a bunch bolted and welded together.

More trucks are going to unibody design as well.

Thanks a lot...seems pretty straightforward. Can you, or anyone tell me how much it would cost to add a short shifter? I'd like to decrease the lengthe of the clutch movement when shifting. I'm not much for too many mods, but if I get an ES, that might be something I'd be interested in. I'm also interested in any suggestions as far as mods for those who don't like mods. In other words, I don't want to do anything too crazy, certainley nothing that might make it more expensive to maintain the car. I'm just interested in some simple things that might make for good additions.

125$ for the Karboy shifter/Bushings/knob

www.kartboy.com

If you want a few simple mods

CAI Intake (Injens the best)
MS Axl back exhaust
Headers
Motor mount incerts
Short Shifter + Bushings

I'm not completely opposed to flying somewhere for the right car. You're in Connecticut?...At least that's east coast.

You have any pics of your car?

I can personally vouch for her car being in great condition. The color looks really nice in person too.

Hey that's really great to hear. I "spoke" (chatted) with her on AIM about the car. Sounds like a really great ES. I've been searching for the "right" ES for over 3 months now. I tried to figure out a reason why I shouldn't buy her car, but could only come up with a lack of ABS; and that's not enough to keep this from being "the" perfect car for me. I would prefer ABS, but her car sounds way clean and well taken care of. I'll just have to pump my brakes properly..hah. I'm looking forward to seeing her pics.

Yeah I wish my Protege5 had ABS but it's really not bad. I have yet to (in the 2 years and 50k miles I've personally put on th ecar) come across a situation where I've said "oh crap I wish I had ABS". Maybe if I didn't have snow tires in the winter it would be bad.
