It depends on how hot it gets and how it its outside. Just give like an hour or so (I'm guessing here) just turn the key on and check the temp gauge, wait till its under about 90 or so, then no chance of getting burnt.

I have never heard of anybody having any problems like that. Your headlights are not water tight to begin with, they are vented through the little tube on the back side. Dont worry, its very easy and you'll see when you do it, that it will seal back up well.
