Most of the time, I get about 25 with combined Hwy/City (more city than highway) in my '08 hatch. Its a manual. Bad MPG for me is usually around 22-23 (lots of city driving and or stop and go). I get close to 30mpg on road trips. Is yours an auto or manual? Auto might be slightly less MPG...

D tweets are 1/4 inch bigger than A tweets. I think its 7/8" vs 1 1/8" diameter. They also have different crossovers, which would affect things. They are great speakers. I just found the tweeter to mid-woofer balance off. It was easily fixed. YMMV depending on install.

iPods have terrible DACs. MP3s decoded by the head unit sound much better. This is less noticeable if you have stock speakers, but if you have upgraded your sound system, you will really be able to hear the poor quality of iPods if you just use the AUX input.

Does not seem like its your audio setup if you car can't handle the A/C alone (are you 100% sure the amp is off - lots of aftermarket amps are turned on anytime the power to the car is on, not just when the head unit is on).

Box is about .25 cu ft, trapezoid shape so it fits flush against the back of the seats.

Everyone and their dog will have a different opinion for you. My suggestions depend on whether you will have an external amp or not. If you don't have an amp: stick to the factory replacement models (those speakers advertised as drop in OEM replacements). I like Pioneer, so their G-series...

Question for both of you with the crackle? When you spliced into the existing wires to do you stereo upgrade/install, did you solder the connections, or just twist them together and tape over them?

What are you looking for from this forum? Are you just venting frustrations? If the device won't work with your model of car, then there is nothing anyone here can do. Try to work out a return with Mazda.
