Anywhere between 18 and 22 is fine. They might have T'ed the vacuum hose in somewhere else because if it was just an open hose unconnected you would have a terrible idle and throw a CEL.

Race gas runs at cooler temps and has other anti-knock properties which allow you to safely turn up the boost without detonation (with supporting mods). I'm pretty sure you would have to tune at that point. But in our case with a boosted protege (stock block) the rods will break with too much...

That is sweet but it'll be pricey for sure. They are probably going to be able to tune a/f ratios sooner or later like the Cobb tuners.

You might just want to get a 3" to 2.5" reducer for the intake to keep the MAF happy, other than that I'm not sure what you can use that wouldn't throw a CEL. The stock diameter is 2.5" I believe and if you go bigger than that the MAF goes crazy (N/A or turbo).

Also a good set of cams with those mods jamesk mentioned will really open up the top end with the ssafc. The JDM intake cam from corksport.com is a good choice, very noticeable pull after about 3.5K.

I got the same code and symptoms when I accidentally pulled a vacuum hose. So I guess you could double check the hoses are secure just to be safe. Other than that I don't know man.
