    CX-5 Battery Replacement recommendation?

See my comments about Costco in post #8. The Interstate battery you buy today isn't the same as a few years ago. Also, regarding Costco AGM batteries, last year I was walking by the auto dept. counter and saw a cart with "old" batteries there. Out of ~8-10 of them at least half were the gray...

    Brakes Need Work Again

I don't have an answer about our different experiences with the Proacts in cold weather except that they were on my previous car. Regarding dusting, I was amazed about the essentially no dusting when I bought my CX-5. Just a small amount of light gray that blended in with the silver wheels...

    Brakes Need Work Again

If considering the Element 3 EHT (EHT--hybrid, not plain Element 3 full ceramic), you may want to get them sooner than later because the parent company for Raybestos has filed for bankruptcy which may cause supply issues. Try Rockauto, maybe Amazon-- I got good prices from both. Regarding my...

    Brakes Need Work Again

The Element 3 EHT actually don't generate that much dust. More then OEM but nothing like the old semi metallic. I'll gladly take the increased dusting to gain better braking over the OEM. I've mentioned before about my dissatisfaction with Proacts. It's like the Proact mantra gets repeated and...

    Should I get a 2020 CX-5 with 177,000km?

I'd check to see if the transmission was serviced (very important in my book) and if the belts are in good condition.

Crush Washer/Gasket Size ID or anyone have a p/n for Mazda?

Metal drain plug washers are reusable for at least a few times. Dissatisfied with the prices I saw, I bought a pack of 50 soft (soft is the word here) aluminum 14mm washers on Amazon. I read the reviews and got the one's the Honda owners were satisfied with. I ordered the aluminum because I...

    2013~2016 CX-5 Gear Selector Light?

Per the above picture this is a revelation to me. As far as I know the gated shifter was on early Gen 1 models and the "command" selector knob only came about 2-3 years later, well after the updated shifter with the boot was introduced. What's going on here?

Is Walmart Super Tech coolant the same as FL22?

$26 a gallon for Mazda coolant? Price must have dropped. I've changed out my 2014 twice using Zerex Asian (pre-mix) because the Mazda coolant was ~$40 a gallon at the time and I was getting a bit fed up with Mazda's premium pricing on some items. I'd use it too at $26 a gallon.

2016 CX-5 Sport uneven AC cooling from vents

    Yea, but I explained WHY.

2016 CX-5 Sport uneven AC cooling from vents

I'm not sure how correct this is but I remember reading somewhere that low "Freon" refrigerant can cause this. Reason was that the refrigerant entered the evaporator (under the dashboard) from the passenger side and there wasn't enough to allow for full expansion across the whole evaporator so...

    Aftermarket Oil Dipstick

Try first thing after sitting all night on level surface. Look at it before wiping off dipstick. Wipe off and insert and read again. Both should be the same.

    Seat covers and dog mat

I got the Mazda floor mats and cargo mat right after purchasing my CX-5. The cargo mat has been great and an absolute must in my book.. The floor mats work for my purposes and look good. The Weathertech mats have deeper sides to contain more dirt, slush etc. I seem to recall that Mazda offered a...

Oil residue above the alternator on 2021 CX-5

Yes, I think you are correct, and having had a leaking tensioner that was the first thing I thought of also but I didn't see deposit on the body thinking it was just shadow but do see it now. I would have expected more leakage down the side and front. The mileage at 50K fits right in also since...

Oil residue above the alternator on 2021 CX-5

Looks like rubber residue from belt wear. Check the serpentine belt for excessive wear. Rub some between your fingers to see if it feels oily. Wipe /wash it off and see if it returns.

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

This thread on grounding caught my interest and after reading a few pages at a time to the end, I decided to put all of that aside and just see what readings I got on a few cables on my (stock, untouched) 2014 as installed from the factory. Didn't loosen any bolts or clean any connections. Just...

Any tips for changing spark plugs?

I have the same socket. I like that it has the springs to grip the plug and no rubber insert to fall out.

Any tips for changing spark plugs?

100% agree. Anti-seize could also add electrical resistance since the plug is grounded to the head though the threads.

    What do you call this?

There are square (and round) plastic caps that are made to fit in the ends of metal tubing. Also could cover hole with black electrical tape until locating a cover.

Grounding Cylinder Head Test Results (2024 CX-5 Turbo)

Never learned anything about voltage being faster than current. Didn't know voltage had a "speed". I do understand that the speed of electron propagation through conductors varies at somewhat less than the speed of light however. The ELI the ICE man refers to voltage (E) leads current (I) in an...
