Is Walmart Super Tech coolant the same as FL22?

Not an expert on coolants, but isn't the spec PHOAT for Mazda or was that a typo? I wouldn't mix the OEM with anything but PHOAT like Zerex Asian that you can get at O'Reilly's. Is it dark green?

Zerex Asian OET is what you need. AutoZone sells the concentrate for like $24 a gallon. Add $1 for a gallon of DISTILLED water from the grocery store, and you're in business.

Just keep in mind that Mazda mixes their FL22 55/45, not 50/50, for enhanced corrosion protection ever since the TSB on the heater core issue.

Why not just use the Mazda coolant? I paid $26 for a gallon at my local dealer, and I have the reassurance that it's the exact right formulation. It lasts so long anyway, I'm not worried about saving a couple of dollars.

Do you know when Mazda switched the coolant? I had the newer coolant put into my 2016 last year but I'm trying to figure out if my 2019 has the old or new coolant.

I believe it was April 2019 that the newer coolant was implemented on the assembly line. The attached TSB says CX-5s with VIN ending in 605884 or lower are affected and have the 50/50 FL22.

Thanks. Unfortunately my 2019 is in the 58XXXX range so I have the 50/50.
With 64,000 miles probably a good point to swap it out.

$26 a gallon for Mazda coolant? Price must have dropped. I've changed out my 2014 twice using Zerex Asian (pre-mix) because the Mazda coolant was ~$40 a gallon at the time and I was getting a bit fed up with Mazda's premium pricing on some items. I'd use it too at $26 a gallon.

Every time I read that I come away with one question.

I can see that they are now mixing it at 55%.

But the other bullet point alludes to the FL22 itself having a higher concentration of the anti-rust additive as well. No one ever talks about that and I wonder if we could confirm that it is indeed different than non-Mazda coolant.

Senior moment, checked my records and I had the coolant changed at 52,000 in the 2019.
Hard keeping track of two CX-5's.
Changed the 2016 at 43,000 miles.

The coolant ratio appears to have been changed for heater core clogging. Not sure if ‘17+ are the same but a good thread/video here to replace heater core without removing dash.

The first nearby dealer did quote $40, so I called another one and they sold it to me for $26. At $40, I might have made a different decision.

That $26 for OEM is still for premix, making it double the cost of Zerex.
If you want 55/45 instead of 50/50, just don't mix quite as much demin water in.
