Hi all, well it is time I installed some boom to my zoom. Would be really helpful to have some ideas to get me going, so if you could post some pics of your installs it would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Go to www.sounddomain.com and go under member pages and search proteges. You can categorize it under "overall soundquality" when searching. I got a lot of ideas from there and a lot more (my kicks).

installs of what? subs? amps? wire? headunits?

Basically what I am after is some ideas for the layout of my boot (so I guess to answer your question, subs and amps). I am keen to keep it practicle so have good sound but a usable boot too. Cheers.

So, I'm retarded then. What good is dynamat anyhoot?
You're retarded?!#@

Dynamat, IMO, is overpriced for what it is. There's several cheaper alternatives that do the exact same thing but since it was the "original" (read: more advertised) stuff, people tend to use it the most. It's basically like adding that "egg foam" acoustical matting to a rooom you play music in.. Just keeps the soundwaves bouncing in the "proper" direction instead of rebounding and diminishing at the wrong time/place.

..at least that's my understanding of the stuff. :D

Ok cool, so is it worth it then? Either the name brand or the lesser known name stuff?

actually thats not what dynamat is desighned to do at all. it does two things, one it mass loads the object its placed on, basically find something that is vibrating, now grab hold. youve just massed loaded the object, your adding more weight to it so it takes allot more energy to make it vibrate, this helps keep your body panels from resonating. secondly it absorbs the sound waves and transfers the mechanical energy into heat. this is somewhat what the eggshell foam does. i do agree though that there are allot cheaper alternatives basically other companies out there have the exact same stuff just not with dynamat stamped on it.

It absorbs the soundwaves? That would basically cut down on the available amount of sound not help the already established sound clear up. Again, I don't know much about the stuff but if I remember the diagram on the back correctly, the reason your body panels resonate is because *they* are absorbing the sound and vibrating because of it. The dynamat prevents the absorption and reflects the wave back to keep it going in the sound field and out of the body panels. Right?

Cool deal...But, the question remains, is it worth while to do?
When I installed my 2 12"RF subs, my P5 rattled like a baby's toy. Once I put some Fat Mat in the rear hatch area, not only did the rattles disappear, but my Mazdaspeed exhaust got a little less intrusive too. :)
I say yes, it's worth it for sound quality. (2thumbs)

Bones, your install just became my favorite P5 system ever. That looks REAL nice, ans it's cool that you can still access your spare tire.

Here's my old favorite. Not so much all the s*** hanging from the hatch, but the way the subs are installed. Clean, out of the way, & still pretty good-sized.
