Does Your Napa Leather have a Chemical Smell?

When we bought our new CX-5 it had a strong solvent smell. I figured since all new cars have a smell that it would subside. It still seems pretty strong, and it's coming form the leather.

Anyone else notice this?

All leather used in vehicle upholstery is treated with protective chemicals like polyurethane. Leather itself is actually a terrible material for cars, which is why it's basically plasticized. The foam and adhesives also have a chemical smell. It takes a good few months (less if you leave the windows cracked while parked) for that smell to subside.

Source: I used to work in an upholstery shop.

That smell is all the chemicals they put on the leather that are "off gassing". New car smell....off gassing.
