Yes, USB sticks larger than 32GB can be formatted as FAT32 (but maybe not by the Windows OS, according to @MichalP). Most USB sticks that you purchase will already be formatted as FAT32.Hmm... so if I have a USB stick bigger than 32GB, it won't format into FAT32? So if Mazda only accepts FAT32 then it's limited to a 32GB stick? But others say that's not true.
I'm very confused.
See page 2-26 here:Yeah I missed it and I still can't find this. Do you have a link?
Windows native formatting limits you to 32GB (as @MichalP said), but there are tools that let you go larger. See: How to Format USB Drives Larger Than 32GB With FAT32 on WindowsSo if Mazda only accepts FAT32 then it's limited to a 32GB stick? But others say that's not true.
RedBaron shows in his posting about the Mazda Connect manual that the max. volume size is 2TB with FAT32.
I myself use a 64GB USB stick without any problem.
Well, then your comment doesn't apply to the OP's car! Doh.I'm talking about my 2016.5 GT. I'm not going to dig it out, but I'm quite sure that the manual for my CX said 32gb max size for the flash drive.

Thank you.
That USB "new technology" is working flawlessly in three Mazda cars (CX-3 and CX-5). Therefore I assume there must be something wrong with your USB sticks (incompatible) or infotainment setup.I understand that new technology may be a great thing most of the time
Oh... don't get me wrong.. the USB works flawlessly in the Mazda... but it is quirky when it comes to how you want it to play, the order etc.... and I have a solution for it by setting up my flash drives with select music instead of folders in my case... I will use it more when we finally get around to actually driving the 5 on a more regular basis but we bought it for longer road trips.... and just haven't been able to do that so far...I think the display and folder ogranization in my Kia is easier to use. My 1995 C1500 is my daily driver and it still has the best sound of all the vehicles I own.... and is the easiest to use as well.... it's all a matter of perspective I guess and for the most part, we don't listen to a lot of music anyway... One thing I need to learn/study is pairing my cell phone so I can use the cell phone GPS ..... right now I have a gooseneck cell phone holder that we use in conjunction with its GPS and that works well... again... it's just a lack of experience and will take some time to learn all this and make it more comfortable to use.... PS my son also owns a CX 5 but they just don't listen to music from flash drives.... I have run every level of music technology in cars from no radio at all, to a simple AM in the 60s, to AM FM stereo, with an 8 track added later on, then to cassettes, CDs, and now I have ripped all my CDs to digital and have them stored on an external drive on one of my servers..... Never got into the Sirius scene.... it's all good....have a good one....That USB "new technology" is working flawlessly in three Mazda cars (CX-3 and CX-5). Maybe you can try your USB sticks in another Mazda? Maybe at the dealer?
I'm betting that you are selecting "Artist" as the category list, rather than "Folder"...Have a 2019 CX-5 and am trying to get Artist folders to show up on my USB stick. Formatted as FAT32 and has ~30 GB of songs. Root of USB contains folders for each Artist and then all songs are directly in each of those folders without any Album folder, but when inserting in car, only a root folder appears, not any artist folders and when I click on the root folder it just lists of all songs not in alphabetical order (seems like it displays based on order it was copied to USB). What file directory format do I have to use so I can browse songs by artist on the USB? All songs contain the artist name in the metadata also. thank you!
