What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

I trusted Google Maps (big mistake), and it ended up taking me down what turned out to be a turkey trail, which was the sketchiest road I've ever driven on in a car and not a truck. But the little Mazda 5 stuck to the road and handled the mud and ruts surprisingly well. Would I do it again? No! But it was fun finding out the Mazda 5 could handle it! Just wanted to share my little adventure in the Mazda 5.

Luckily that was a mud track. In my 5 Google sent me down a very coarse gravel track, like 1" to 2" pieces. One of the stones popped up and got lodged between a rear pad and rotor and gouged the rotor bad enough to need replacing. I'll take mud any day!
 
Not sure why I waited this long, but I finally pulled the trigger on the wind deflectors. Instructions were not the simplest to understand, but it was fairly straightforward. In the end, I think it looks sleak and they do their job well.

These look awesome, what visors are these?
 
Did my headlights last week. Sanded them down with Mother's NuLens kit and sprayed them with the Spraymax 2K clear

I did get a little over spray on my windshield, but was easily removed after.
@zedebra 2 years later, how is the Spraymax clear holding up? I'm thinking of doing the same.

I think if I took the headlights off it would have held up better. Center mass of the headlights is still clean and clear. Towards the top of the lights at the hood line it has been flaking off, and I am going to put that as a mistake on my part. Because I should have full sprayed on the inner headlight lens that is tucked under the hood. That way it would be more sealed and prevent the flaking on the top. I would recommend the Spraymaxx clear.

Thanks! After trying so many headlight restore kits that last 6-8 months, I think it's time to switch it up and use a clear coat!

That was sort of the reason I tried the clear coat method this time. Easily the best results so far even with my mistakes. Also ignore the dirty car. Every time I had a day off or time to wash, it either rains or was gonna rain all week.

I cant say I am a big fan of the exhaust manifold situation with these 2.3s :ROFLMAO:

Just ordered a exhaust manifold and some new O2 sensors. I was kinda curious about if the Mazda 3 2.3 header system would fit the Mazda 5. I dont think the firewall is much different if not exactly the same between year models. But I just stuck with an OE replacement for now. Catalytic convertor on mine smells especially fouled out and I think there may be an exhaust leak on the mid pipe as well, cause I can feel a lot of exhaust heat/pressure on my feet under the passenger side door.

What year and mileage? It not uncommon for weldseams and gaskets to leak after the compression and vibrations. That you feel heat down in the footwell points to a failure in the area. OE may cost more but they're much better quality than most aftermarket exhaust parts.

2006 with 155K miles
 
Installed the Transmission Control Module back from a company that rebuilds/repairs them. Was throwing a P0753 code. now throwing a P0773 code. Already changed the ATF. Earlier, I swapped another TCM in from eBay and it was worse: threw both P0753 and P0758(?). I put the original back in and it drove smoother and switched back to only P0773. Pretty sure it is the TCM. I am guessing the TCM I got back wasn't the same one I sent in and wasn't repaired properly, hence the new code.

The other option is the shift solenoid or wiring is bad, but unlikely to switch WHICH solenoid/wire is bad.

(The 5's and 3's have known problems with the TCMs on the late 2000s model years)

Anyone in the SF Bay Area have a 2008-2010 Mazda 5 with a working (no codes/lights) transmission that would be willing to let me borrow their TCM to confirm the vehicle would work with a known good TCM?

(A lot to ask I know, but it's killing me. I had to non-op the vehicle b/c it won't pass smog with check engine/trans lights lit. I can't sell it like this. I am going to have to convince the TCM rebuild company that the unit they sent me is still bad).

Did you check pick-n-pull San Jose North? There's one 2010 there right now, also some other stuff in Newark...

In the past, I drove to Fairfield and Oakland Pick-n-Pulls to look for one but they were already taken. I've entered a search in Row52 to get notifications when new 5's arrive, but I hesitate to drive from Richmond to San Jose or Newark in the hopes that the TCMs are still there a week after the car arrived. (And still no guarantee the part is any good.)

Corolla was in front of me at a stop sign. As we were stopped, she puts her car in reverse. I lay on the horn for a couple seconds, but she either ignores it or panics and just backs up into me. No brake lights until she is already plowed into my car.

Also the irony of it being a Corolla that hit me. My Mazda5 was my replacement for my Corolla after the insurance totaled it from a wreck 4 years back.

If it's any help, that damage looks pretty easy to fix. I had to patch mine up when I got it and taking off the front bumper on our cars is pretty easy if you want to fix it yourself.

Aw that's awful! I've nearly been hit in a similar situation someone backing up. One way to take the repair cost down is rely on color matched parts from recycled/refurbished suppliers. Bodywork shops will be able to source it. When a basketball hoop blew down on my 5, they body shop sourced a fender, grill, hood, and headlight for a fraction of the repair cost.

I hope the Corolla's insurance is good to you!
