Blizzak availability

Out of curiosity I took out one of my tire and replace it with the donut tire. Drove my CX-9 2008 GT arround the block and I did not see any indicator lighting up. Does this prove that I don't have the TPMS on this CX-9?

Did anyone got problem ordering from tirerack? Base on your suggestion I'm planning to order 18x8 Sport Edition TK1 Bright Silver Paint, 235/65R18 Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1
Blackwall (only available 235/65R18 Blizzak), 315MHz Tire Pressure Sensor, total of cost of order is $1,380.18. I guess once I received this order it's just a direct replacement.

Since the delivery will end up in a P.O.Box is there a chance that it will get damaged? Does anyone ever experience returning items to tirerack? How's the experince in returning items to them?

The only thing that kinda irked me was they needed me to call them from my work number, because my "cell/home" number was not listed on their directory something. I never did understand what's up with that.

When they shipped them it was just the tires with cardboard protecting the rim front and back, no box or anything. I had mine shipped to a UPS Store Box.

From the manual:
...
After adjusting the tire air pressures, it may
require some time for the TPMS warning
light to go out. If the TPMS warning light
remains illuminated, drive the vehicle at a
speed of at least 25 km/h (16 mph) for 10
minutes, and then verify that it goes out.
...

The same for detecting your missing sensor.
It takes speed of 16mph for 10 minutes to
make sure that the sensors' data are received by
the ECU. The sensors do not send data constantly,
which wastes battery power. It only sends info under certain algorithm.

Well i just put them and on I had the Sport Edition ST3 rims and my Impact Socket did not fit into the rim. :(

But good thing my 13/16 regular socket did.

CX9 SportOwner, Ceric,

I left the tire in the garage and drove around the block at 30Km/hr I'm a bit concern driving with donut. Nothing shows up on the panel so I decided to go back home as it started to snow a bit again. Besides isn't it if you start the engine all indicator should light up and then off? I don't see the TPMS indicator showing up at all. I know TPMS is mandatory to cars manufactured for US market starting 2008, I live in Canada and here its not. So did Mazda go cheap again to save some cost on their production line? What do you think guys?

xarthan,

Did the rims you order got damage(scraches) during the delivery? I'm thinking of placing my order soon, as snow starting to arrive in our place. I'm also thinking of not including the TPMS sensor as it is just a waste of money. Besides my car seems not to have the TPMS on the system.

No TPMS in Canada it appears.

I just checked the Mazda.CA site and the Mazda USA site and TPMS is not mentioned anywhere in the .CA site for the CX-9.

Being a NHSTA requirement a few years back, I suspect Canada has not adopted this safety feature yet.

I just got my wheels and tires and I took one apart and it looks perfect. They are some very aggressive treads on these things. Kind of crazy. Can't wait to put them on tomorrow. The rims look great too. Pretty nice for $140 per. They were the Sport Edition SE-14's.

Vikefan7 are your tires and rims assembled and balanced? How's the packaging? No scratch on your rims?

I placed my order today Blizzak DM-V1 and Sport Edition TK1, I just hope that the packaging is strong enough to protect the rims as it will be deliver to private run post office service.

Yes, they came all mounted and balanced. I haven't taken all the packaging off of all the rims, but the one I did looked fine. There's a stiff piece of cardboard that covers the front and back of rims with a little box with the lugnuts in the middle. Then it has a ton of bands that wrap around the tire to keep the cardboard in place. The packaging was pretty solid.

Mine came last year exactly the same way. Arrived in perfect condition!

You will be very pleased!

nope, no damage

ALTHOUGH I don't think they are properly balanced. Going to take them to Les Schwab later today to have them rebalanced. I get vibration going 55+

At least Tire Rack is willing to pay for the re-balancing. :)

EDIT -

Just got back and looks like all 4 weren't balanced. Vibration is gone now. Also it seems the blizzak have rotational direction and I put one pair on backwards

They finally ship my order so I'm in waiting mode now. Still with using my original 20" rim, my wife is complaining about the rough ride, I'm afraid that once we put the 18" wheels she might like it and end up with 18" rims all year long.

I can't wait now and always checking the status of my shipment online. I will post picture here once they arrived.

Thanks guys for all your comments on this forum. Big help for my decision.

maybe it's me, but the 18" feels bouncier than the 20's they both feel smooth on the hwy thou, but i can take speed bumps faster on the 18's (drive2)

Probably has something to do with the uber soft compound. I took a look at these things and you can actually move the treads back and forth because of the siping. I've never bought winter tires before so didn't know just how soft the compound would be. Pretty crazy.

I still haven't had a chance to put them on. A friend of mine was supposed to come over yesterday and help me out, but he never called. And it's not a job I feel comfortable doing by myself, plus he has all the tools I need.

Do you need a torque wrench to tighten the nuts or guestemate using your body weight will do? I don't want to over tighten the nuts on the wheel and I don't want to make it too loose too.

Any suggestion?

Well I put the Blizzaks on today and was a little dismayed to see a couple of pretty deep scratches on one of the spokes that are not going away. I plan on calling TireRack to ask what kind of compensation I can get from them. I'm pretty sure it wasn't me. I only took off the cover for one wheel before transporting them to my friends house where they weren't even laid down. The only time I could've damaged them would have been putting them in the car and then taking them out.

I've only driven on them for about 3 miles, but at this point the ride quality doesn't seem any different to me. We'll see how much the performance suffers.

I got my tire and wheel yesterday and mounted them using torque wrench I follow the Wheel Lug Torquing guide from tirerack specification for the size of the lug came with the wheel.

I'm impress with the delivery from Ontrac, after two days I got my package. Tirerack also package the tire properly and none got damage. See the picture how the package was sent to me. Also night shot of my CX-9.

The only thing I find a little bit of a problem is lock nut's key from the original mazda rim won't fit on the new rim.
