cool...looks nice. and black is very subtle especially when its on an already outlandish color like the mazda true red, lol

every time i take my wheels off i think about doing the same thing, but never do

i just did this on my p5, i actually used color matched car paint though

used a wire brush to clean them, then simple green, then acetone and dab the paint on there with a little piece of sponge and after 3 or 4 coats it was done
looks pretty good i think

The reason I went with black was i was afraid I wouldn't be able to match the True Red and plus I wanted to be stealthy. Here's hoping the decals last!

Where'd you purchase the G2 kit? I was gonna go with eBay when I'm ready to purchase since it's $34.95 shipped with the 8% Live Cashback.

Hank, I can't remember but I paid $36.02 shipped for the kit. It nearly covered in one coat, whereas the Duplicolor takes 3 or more coats to cover.

I did duplicolor brush on pepboys 18 bux.
set the sticker into the just tacky paint
LOTSA paint left, I coated very well and could do a second car easy (Bill?)
preclean with standard cleaners and save the kit can for a final go over
stickers are a pain! wow gettin off the backing and onto the release each little part. using a sharp peel angle helps, but no guaranty

is there a concensus on the cleanest pads?
I really give a s*** about max stop power, I'm runnin firehawk ovals, which I could lockup with freds heels.

but I am TIRED OF CLEANING my wheels,.... thank you

one process I saw that looked really good was the guy laid down a primer. he than laid down a coat of white, applied the sticker. Laid down a few coats of red than removed the sticker. The white really stood out and didnt get all busted up later on like some of the stickers do.

May I ask where you purchased the stickers? Just a Mazda online purchase? I painted my calipers red with the G2 about a year ago, so far so good. When I got the G2 kit delivered my first impression of the brush they send is "how cheap is this". But in the end it worked fine, lasted for 2 full coats. The G2 covered well, and is holding well. I wonder if I could airbrush some clear Acrylic over the decals to add a layer of protection? I guess I could get an extra set to be sure the Acrylic didn't mess up the decal.

Got mine from here. Ordered the MAZDASPEED one in white (for the fronts) and then just the slanted "3" for the rears. Got the idea from KRYSTM. Hopefully it'll look slick on G2 black paint when it's done :)

EDIT* They're done!!!

i kinda dig the painted calipers... a nice red poking out from our rims might look nice..... questions:

how in the hell do you get those decals to stay on there, and handle the heat of the brakes? i figured the heat would just melt them off... or do you put down a white coat underneath, and then peel off the decals after you do the red?

can you take the paint back off if you feel like it? acetone, or something?

Most people use decals. I haven't read any stories of people's vinyl decals melting off. I suppose they could if someone were tracking their cars regularly, but it seems that most people who put them on don't really track/don't put their cars through heavy duty use.

I have tracked my car once with the decals & they are fine. I am going to the track again sep 19th, so will see how they hold up to 2 track days a couple of months apart. I also did not clear coat mine.

I have had my decals on for a year now and i haven't any kind of peel.

They just get dirty.
