Wiring an amp for my P5

I'm installing an Infinity Basslink in my P5 over the weekend and I'm wondering where should I connect the power source to... On my last car the battery had top and side posts, so it wasn't an issue... Looks like this battery has top posts only. Any ideas on the best way to wire the power to the amp? Looks like there is a grommet behind the battery that goes into the cabin, so I'll probably try to pass the power in through that opening. I'll probably only be using 8 guage wire since the Basslink has a 200 Watt amp... Nothing big and boomy, but enough to add some bass...

EDIT:
I think I figured out what I need to do. Should have thought it out a little more before I wasted a post. Anyway, if anyone has ideas, that would still be appreciated.

If you're trying to connect the wire to the battery it's easiest remove the positive cable on the battery and unscrew the bolt on the terminal all the way. Put the amp wire's terminal onto the exposed clamping bolt and screw the tension bolt back on and put it on the batter. I am fairly sure there are how to's for amp set up in the forum. I would search for them before someone jumps on you for not searching. As for running the wire through the firewall and into the cabin. you should see an opening in the firewall, basically it's right behind the steering wheel but down a bit, that you can run the wire through. Go into the car and reach behing the carpet under the steering wheel and you might feel the wire. Pull wire and run in along the door way.

I just did the same install! I attached it where the positive battery cable meets the fuse box. I managed to shove the power wire through the firewall with the main harness. If I had to do it over, I'd get one of those firewall grommets and drill a new hole.

Yeah, I was planning on hooking it to the bolt on the positive terminal and it then pass it through the grommet. It's not like I'm powering a massive system, we're talking 200 Watts over 12GA wire... Should be fine, if not I have the 8GA sitting in my garage. Thought about going with 8ga, but I figured it was overkill for such a tiny amp. I already passed a coathanger through the grommet to make sure I wouldn't have any problems, so I know that will work. Raserx, how does the basslink sound? I'm going to be installing mine tonight. I finally installed my old Pioneer DEH-P770MP and boy do the stock speakers sound good compared to how they did with the stock 6-disc changer installed. I was dying without my iPod connection... (lol2)

did you get a capacitor for the amp? running an amp and sub straight into the car's battery might work or it might end up ruining a lot of things like your alt. I would invest in a $70 cap over a $200 for a new alt. just a thought.

I think it sounds great. It's very adjustable and has plenty of boom for me. Best of all, I found it on the "OPtimum Rewards" website for $156.00 ! It's a shopping site for people who have phone, internet, and tv service from our local cable co. I have a Clarion head unit with USB/IPOD input also.So happy to be rid of CD's. I mounted the bass control knob under head unit in the pocket.

With a 200W amp you won't need a cap. A cap is good only for those who have a small amount of dimming lights. A 200W amp is probably not going to cause that. I would go ahead and run the 8GA wire through the firewall. Who knows you might want to upgrade. Sounds like you have a start on your system. Make sure that you use good grounding points and the fuse is of the magnitude you need. Have a nice Day!

Well, it's installed, but I don't have it anchored down. Sounds damn good for a single 10" sub on a 200 Watt amp. Have to play around with it a little to get it just right I suppose. I paid $110 for it, used and it's the Basslink X, which has a clear case... Couldn't beat the price. How did you mount it? Did you just use self-tapping screws into the floor pan? Can't tell fully from your pic, but that's what it looks like...

I have my amp mounted to the back of my fold-down seat. Nice and convenient for any adjustments, and showing off (first)

You might be able to fit the sub under the back seat??
I'm not sure how well it'll fit but it seems like a nice idea. Won't lose space, and It'll be right behind the drivers seat. Just put a grill infront of it to protect the sub.
