Motorcycle Accident

I got in an accident on my bike a couple of months ago (RIP R6) by being cut off by some teenagers that werent paying attention. Luckily I had all my gear on except my pants. I got cut off and slid for about 50-60 feet. I had a ton of adrenaline and after I was done sliding, I jumped up and threw my bike back up on its wheels. So I ended up having my knees scratched up and bruised up pretty well. I also had my ass scratched up pretty well, with a big hole in my pants, but I didnt realize that until I got home that my pants had a huge hole in the ass.
Anyway, just a reminder that anyone can be the best driver in the world, but that people can always change into your lane for no reason, so always pay attention!! My accident could have been A LOT worse.
Also, they stopped and had insurance and got a check cut out to me by our insurance company (we had the same insurance company)

Yeahhh I sold my bike (06 636) right as I got my speed. After a few close calls and my buddy's crashing theirs (1 hit a bear!), I decided to stay on 4 wheels for a while.

Glad you are okay!
Was the bike totaled or was it repairable? Did you buy it back if it was totaled?

im glad you came out ok, reminds me a couple months ago there was a big crash half a block from my house, i heard the impact so i ran to the intersection, a guy was running from the cops he ran the red light and hit a lady in a volvo. they had to bring the jaws of life to get the woman out of the car he was pronounce dead on impact, once they took the helmet off he had no nose. sad he was a young guy.

I crashed the hell out of my cbr600 3 years ago and know what that adrenaline rush feels like. My bike was completely trashed and I can remember getting up and walking to it like nothing had happend at all. I picked it up and attempted to ride it home but when I looked down and saw myself covered in blood my brain clicked over and said "dude you're hurt". Sure enough it hurt like hell, being stuck in a bed for a few weeks sucks.

It was a lesson learned though that is for sure. I was not properly geared and paid the price for it. I came around a corner I was familar with but the weather was a bit cold and my tires lost grip causing me to low side the bike. It was no ones fault but my own, and I certainly was a lot more careful on my cbr1000rr the next summer.

i feel for the guys who have been in bike wrecks...i sold my 05 gixxer600 in order to "assist" in buying the ms3, and i was lucky enough to have never been in an accident or even have dropped it. couple close calls for sure

i do plan on getting another bike, but i was leaning more towards cruising (superstreet can be soooo tiring when you dont' use the bike to full potential).

I'm a big believer in All The Gear- All The Time. When I ride my Speed Triple I assume that 99% of the other drivers can't see me and and that the other 1% are trying to kill me. I strongly recommend reading David Hough's books Proficient Motorcycling and More Proficient Motorcycling. Several of his tips have saved my bacon on more than one occasion.

I'm just curious as to how you can total a motorcycle when it looks pretty good in the pics you posted...

The handlebars need to be replaced and it needs some paint but it looks like it's in pretty good condition still.

Did that about 15 years ago (so my kids would have a father). I was kinda of a speed freak.

Excellent mentality!!! Has saved me more than once.

Tweak/bend the frame, this will normally total it.

I was going around 50-60 mph when I actually layed the bike down.

The pictures are actually decieving as to how much damage is on the bike. The handle bar was broken, if you look at the front tire and the direction of the handle bars, it's all jacked up. The frame was actually bent a little, the clutch was broken, the rear seat area was all jacked up, and the damage was actually under the bike, the bottom end was cracked open, and the bike spilled all the oil on the road. The bike might not look that bad, but the cost to repair it would have been more than the bike itself.

the smallest things on bikes can end up costing the most to repair. i know one of my biggest fears was running over something in the road like a nail and the front tire throwing it into the radiator. i know a radiator is really expensive to replace, and it seems like the most vulnerable piece to get damaged outright if you don't consider any type of accident

I quickly learned I should have had that mind set the first go around. I road just like you described on my second bike. It just sucks it took a bad wreck to make me realize what I should have been doing all along.

Ah, see how much I know about motorcycles.

That would have been good to mention, I get that speak...just not what can total a bike. I think "no bendable panels, not many problems." everything is basically in a protective shell with lots of holes so I think if it falls and slides all you need is paint and some new bars or whatever. I'm a 4 wheel man so that's what I know and what I love.
I just reiterated myself like 3 times there. lol

do you still ride?

also glad to see you are okay im going to be riding a motorcycle this summer and will do my best to stay save!

as much as I can.

this scar serves as a pretty decent reminder every morning out of the shower to not ride like an asshole.
