Dealer Knows Nothing...

I can beat that. One of the local guys took his Speed3 to a dealership. They told him he didn't have a Mazdaspeed3, that Mazda never made a Mazdaspeed3. Nope, he had a regular Mazda3 with the optional Turbocharger/Intercooler/6 Speed/LSD option package.

that, my friend, is amazing..... I almost fell out of my chair laughing

Wasn't it just Mazdaspeed Springs, some fancy paint and wheels, and a different ECU? I still don't understand why they don't just offer it as a flash for us.

the extreme was pretty much a reflash, intake, cbe, and some visual mods. Won't be coming here because of emissions

I forget who posted it, but as far as the "true awd axela" it's only on their base 2.0 motor. The MS axela has the same system we do, just rhd

don't get me wrong here.. but i seeeee wayyyy more speed 3's than speed proteges.. and i know there are more than 3k proteges.

I was in Tokyo and Osaka all week last week and only saw 2 Mazda 3s (Axela) the entire time. I figured I would see them all over the place.

I have had the pleasure of meeting some higher management people from within Mazda and they inform me of several things..

1) Mazda loses money on anything Mazdaspeed ( car wise). They really do sell them at a loss

2) when you compare a top of the line GT N/A with a speed3 GT, the price difference is only a couple of thousand dollars and look what you get!

3) They do not make them in massive quanities because quite frankly, they DON"T sell, (thought the speed3 might be the exception since its quite practical) Most dealers have leftover speeds at the end of the year. I bought my speed Miata for 9K off of sticker!

4) limited quantities means higher costs to produce.

5) Mazda is a small company without a lot of name recognition.. Unlike Toyota and Nissan and Honda, Rarely does Mazda get mentioned in the same breath

6) Making them for only 2 years, limits their losses, maximizes the excitement of the model, brings people into the showroom and creates a great image for the company.

But they don't make money DIRECTLY off of the speeds.. They follow the American practice of race on Sunday, sell on Monday.

I would consider us quite fortunate for the gift that is Mazda.. The ability of that small company to resist the big bad daddy parent Ford and give us some truly awe inspiring cars

Hey yea

Im pretty sure that the speed3 is limited edition. i even read that they only made 5000 of them in north america. But when i asked my dealer he said that they were becoming part of the mazda line for good. One reason i bought the car as because i was hoping there wasn't going to be too many around. If any one can clear this up for me it would be great :D

Yes I thought 5000 available to US in 2007. Again Mazda gave the folks in the " know" a great gift with speed 3 You just can't manufacture a car with this much performance engineering and realize a big profit. That's why some of us waited in line for this little hot rod+. I was at a historical Corvette meet last summer, parked in lot. Father and young son also leaving. I overheard as I pulled out kid say Daddy is that a race car? He pointed to me and my spd3 , oh yeah its a very cool car dude!

I was in Fukuoka and Saga all last week and only saw 2 Axelas, too.

My dealership didnt even know you could get them in cwp or metro grey in a few months until I told them a couple weeks ago.

They're definately rare. I see less MS3's than MS6's. In the last 2 years I've only seen maybe 10 speed 6's and 3 speeds 3's. Other than at the dealership of course. And I've owned 2 MS6's lol

it isnt 100% Japanese the front brakes on the MS3 are off of a Volvo. dont remember which one exactly but its a volvo none-the-less making that a european touch to the MS3

Since the merger of Ford, Volvo, Mazda, Jaguar, and Land Rover, they have been swapping parts between each other...

Till now, the swapping of parts has been a positive thing...

I think it's from the XC90. I saw this Volvo the other day in a parking lot and I noticed that the brakes look like the ones we have on our MS3's. The size and the type look identical.

Our brakes are the ones off the volvo s60 and our chassis is a modified version of the Volvo s40 (c1 platform). My window sticker says 95% of the parts are from Japan
