Leaking Oil

My belts have been squealing lately and so I took a closer look at them, only to notice that I have an oil leak coming from the valve cover of the engine. I think the oil leaking from the engine onto the belts is what's causing the squeak.

Attached are two images. The first showing the area where the leak is coming from and the second a closer look at that area. I tightened the valve cover all around and took a little drive to find no more squeaking. So maybe the problem is solved but I just wanna make sure it's nothing serious.

Will I need a new gasket? Was it just the valve cover that wasn't tightened enough, causing an oil leak or is it something more serious?

Let me know!

Matt

It never really hurts to replace a gasket... it's probably under $20.00. You should probably try those first. After replacing the gasket and tightening the bolts if there's still a problem, well... let's cross that bridge when we get there. Let us know, either way.

Check to see if the bolts are loose on the cover. If not take the cover off and replace the gasket. Paint the cover while it's off. If you have more problems then take it to a mechanic and have them look at it. It's hard to diagnose leaks over the internet.

Ya, well I'm just looking for a bit of insight before having to do all the work.
