MAM Hi-Flow Cat Midpipe

I may be getting a MAM Hi-Flow Cat Midpipe but here is the deal. I have a Thermal CL catback exhaust, stock headers, and stock midpipe right now. With stock headers, Mam Midpipe, and my cat back is it going to be wierd with the stock header?

like stock headers being restrictive and then bam performance mid pipe. I dunno. Like a Hummer with 17 inch wheels.

I personally think it would be fine and not weird; however, for the money, a header might be a better investment.

well bigj ^^ up there is comming by in an hour and probably on his way right now to mess around with 2 midpipes going on his car and my car and depending if I like it or not I will take it from him or he may be on the boards selling it soon.

take it, u can always get a header later. protege garage makes a nice midpipe too but its more expensive than the MAM one

Ok. Let's talk about the connection between the midpipe and the headers. There is a spring type thing on the 2 bolts. Is that needed? I don't think I tightened it down enough and I get a vibration and a rattle there. Should I take the spring out when I go to tighten it down? I have the stock header still but will be replacing it soon probably.

I am pretty sure you need the springs because otherwise your exhaust won't flex properly. I.e. if you tighten it without the spring, it will break as your engine moves and puts stress on that part of the exhaust.

Maybe the gasket is leaking?

if u have a flex pipe u dont need springs, if u dont have a flex pipe u need them. you want to tighten it so that the exhaust isnt loose but dont tighten it so much that the spring is fully compressed as it cant keep tension.

Not sure, it's definatly the connection between the midpipe and the headers. I feel exhaust backpressure and pressure losses and uneven pressures between throttle open/closed. The noise is definatly a lose bolt sounding noise under vibration. The exhaust vibrates faster at higher RPM which is why it's only noticable at low RPM such as the car starting or moving from a stop.

What's a "flex pipe" look like. I am pretty sure I know what it is... I'll be googling it as of...NOW.

ok so conclusion is I can ditch the springs and tighten that thing on like a normal bolt now. Don't get off work til 5 though

I just have regular bolts in mine. Also if you have any problems with it rubbing on the cross member, loosen up the bolts on the back of the midpipe hold it up a little and tighten down. I had that problem and read that somewhere on here and it fixed it.

The MAM midpipe has a flex joint in it.
