Power Liftgate When?

Rear liftgate

I just got my GT last Sunday, and it has the power liftgate. It came as a package with the GT assist package: Nav system, Rear view camera, and power hatch.

That's interesting, because I just put in an order for a GT with the Grand Touring Assistance Package. The dealer told me that the power liftgate will not be available until August at the earliest. Trying to figure out what the real story is.

PLG with Cargo cover

The cargo cover doesn't touch the lift gate (including the sensor area) when closed. There is about 1/2" gap between them. Also, I believe there is enough room for the drive, too. After reading the manual (for Canadians it's on page 3-33), the only interference I can imagine is with the sensors. If this is the case (I hate to say (sssh) because I zoom -zoom) this is a plain design flaw and Mazda engineers will fix it.

Doesn't bother me anymore - I am happy with the cargo cover.

The red mark on the following shows the horizontal plane of the cargo cover.

I think the most probable cause would be the hook not being in place when there is bulge in the sidewall for the PLG motor ->

I have the power liftgate on my GT. Does anyone know whether there is some after-market product I can get to use as a cargo hold cover?

Dumb question: Is it really that difficult for you grown men to open and close the gate yourself? My wife seems to manage ok.

Issue was not about the PLG itself - but why the Cover is stated as not compatible with PLG.

BTW if you have small kid - who manages to open the gate but not close it by himself, then the PLG would be very welcome (2thumbs)
