Any way to clean rust from muffler?

I have the racing beat exhaust from an 03 MSP on my P5. When I had the tip cut and welded, the guy at the exhaust shop must have forgot to use gas, cuz I've got splash damage all over the muffler. Is there any reasonably easy way to get this off?

some metal polish, chrome polish, patience,a bit of your time, and a small cold beer should get that fixed....

It may take more than a small beer...

So is that metal OR chrome polish, or both?
Ok...Steel wool - remove rust. What to apply polish? I'm a total "appareance" noob, my car's a daily lol. I think this is my 1st post in the section ever. Rust just bothers me.

Well, I used to know a girl.... Oh, wait this isn't a trailer hitch!!

They make different grades of steel wool, like sand paper. I'd suggest using the steel wool in a back and forth motion, not circular. Then finish up with a nice metal/chrome polish.

ok, now we're getting there. Any suggestions on the grade of steel wool? I don't want to scratch the hell out of the thing, but I also don't want to be there for 6 months trying to get the rust off.

I can't believe you didn't ask me for her number!
