Spy Shots: Hyundai Terracan

Hyundai is soon to replace its ageing and out-of-date Terracan off-roader by this much more refined SUV, the biggest 4x4 the Korean manufacturer will offer alongside the smaller Santa Fe and Tucson. With its less angular design, the new Terracan follows the trend of sleeker bodies even for real mud ploughs such as the new Mercedes GL, the current Range Rover, Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser. Chassis and mechanics will be improved over the current models, but todays engines will be used again for the new car: a 3.5-litre 24-valve V6 petrol engine delivering some 200 bhp and a 2.9-litre four-pot common-rail turbodiesel with around 170 bhp. We expect the car to be launched at the 2007 NAIAS in Detroit in early January

Yeah, saw that. The 3rd gen just NEEDS to come out. I'm fan of the Tiburon - about the only Hyundai I'd ever consider.

The current Tiburon is the 3rd gen. Its time for the 4th to come out. When did the current Tibby come to market? 2002?

Seriously? I can only recall one major overhaul (the current body style - I think it's been longer than 2002).

I'll have to look into it.

I also pray for the day when the redesigned tib comes out. Seeing how nice the newer hyundai cars are I'm gonna assume the new tiburon will be awesome. I have a 04 tib and that car is a blast to drive also but that was designed when hyundai was beginning to get really good. The new one will be made when hyundai IS really good so I am looking foward to purchasing one when it comes out.

The purple one is the RD 1 tiburon which lasted from 1996-1999 (96 was oversees market only) I had a 97 RD 1 tib and it was very fun and pretty quick. The silver tib was the RD 2 tib which was made from 2000-2001. Then the 2003-2004 tiburon was the GK tib which got a facelift in 2005-2006 with new front bumpers and headlights along with updated interior and tails. I'm really suprised hyundai is making ANOTHER facelift of the car. Hyundai usually has one facelift on each platform they have and then usually scraps the car for a new design.. Anyways here are some photochopped images of a prototype bumper idea for the new facelifted tib. But on topic.... The new terracan if still using the OLD 3.5 motor will be a disappointment. the motor has alot of power, almost deceptive of the 200 hp but it's heavy and does not have the technology or the fuel efficiency of the new hyundai motors. They need to put the new 3.8 azera motor into that thing to make it compete.
