Hi,

I need to remove the IAC on my 01 2.0L I4 Tribute. It seems to be under the intake manifold & between the block. Do I have to remove the intake to get the IAC out? Thanks.

1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. - see next post : How to remove Air cleaner Outlet pipe
PICT0403.JPG

2. Disconnect the idle air control (AIC) valve electrical connector
PICT0404.JPG

3. Remove two bolts and the IAC valve
(1) Discard old gaset

4. To instal, reverse the removal procedure
(1). Install a new gasket

EDIT: pics added, and this is my 800th post :)

2. Remove the outlet pipe.
(1). Disconect the outlet pipe from the throttle body.
(2). Unclip the hose from the outlet pipe
(3). Disconnect the crankcase vent tube and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe

Note: - The air cleaner outlet pipe should be securily sealed to prevent unmetered air from entering the engine

3. To install, reverse the removal procedure

Hope this helps

Good luck with the removal

let us know how everything goes with the removal

Thanks for the info but I must be an idiot or something. I am not seeing the IAC above at all. Here are some pics of my throttle body area. I beleive I am seeing it below the throttle body.

it's the silver thing on top of the throttle body

I found a article with pictures showing the thing. It describes removing the fuel rail & intake manifold to remove the IAC. I am going to confirm that with the dealer tomorrow. That really sucks. Thanks again.

I will let you know what happens. I will post a couple tomorrow. It has been raining so much here, I have not had a chance to take too many.

by the way, why do you need to remove the IAC?

I have a rolling unsteady idle that from what I have read is probably a IAC that needs to be cleaned. I have already had the P0401 code & replaced the DPFE sensor the day after I bought the car.

I removed the IAC this morning. PITA. I did not have to remove the manifold but could access it from below after I removed the splash sheild. It was still a very tight fit as the starter was in the way. Good news is, my fluctuating idle is now cured. Seems very quiet & steady. Next time I am going to remove the starter just to make it a little easier.

(cool) good to hear that you could do it without going to the stealership

This sucks. When I first cleaned the IAC it did seem to idle better. Now after a few days it is back to the rolling unsteady idle after it is warm. Never stalls sure seems like it wants to. Well, back to square one.
