The long awaited summer road trip photo album

:
03 Silver Protege5
I've been telling people I would have these pictures up since September, and I finally got around to resizing them today, so enjoy.

Sorry for the blurriness of the first pic, this little guy was a going away present from my sister, and he was with me every step of the way.

Our first stop on the trip was Memphis, Tennessee to see the famous Sun Studios. The second picture is the P5 lookin sexy in the parking lot behind the building, the third a photo of the Man in Black in the waiting room, and the fourth a recording machine used by many great artists, including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. I wasn't sure if I would really enjoy the experience of Sun, but I am very thankful that I decided to go, and I would recomend that anyone who has a chance to visit this place do so without hesitation.

Our second stop was in Tulsa, Oklahoma where my friends sister had just transfered to the University of Tulsa after spending a grand total of three days at Loyola New Orleans before Katrina hit.

The first pic here is a snapshot I took as we were getting ready to head out at about 7 AM.

The second shot is a kickass water slide we saw on the way out of Oklahoma City.

Third picture was on the side of a Rider truck we saw on the way into Tulsa.

Fouth is another snapshot of some really cool sunbeams I saw on the way out of OK City.

Pic 5 here is a truck we saw in, where else, Arkansas.

The third day of our trip we took a big chunk of hours out by getting from Tulsa all the way through Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where we were very graciously hosted by Rich, aka 505Zoom.

#1: Here is one of the first things we saw when we got to Texas, and it was immediatly clear to me where we were. I call it, "Everythings bigger in Texas"

#2: a testament to the fact that Texans do in fact love their state. We spied this at a really cool rest stop just east of Amirillo, featured in picture #3

#4: Even further affirmation that we were in Texas.

#5: A town outside of Amarillo where we stopped for some Dairy Queen and got some dirty looks for taking this picture. We quickly left.

Day 3 was not a very long driving day, but it was one of the best of the trip. We traveled from Albuquerque to Sedona, Arizona by way of the Meteor Crater and the Grand Canyon.

#1: What's wrong with this picture?

#2, #3 and #4: Here are a few pictures we took on day 2 on the way into New Mexico, just past the Texas border. Some of my personal favorites(rockon)

#5: This is a picture I took of the courtyard of the Meteor Crater visitor center.

More of day three. I'll say the same thing about these places that I did about Sun. You gotta see these at some point. They are just amazing. If you can figure out where the astronaut is standing in the large picture of the crater, I'll be suprised, because I can't see him and I know where he is! I'll post up a pic in a couple days with his circled. Just think of it as a slightly meaner version of Wheres Waldo.

This was my third visit to the Grand Canyon, and I'll go back someday I'm sure. It's really something you have to see. Pictures dont begin to do it justice.

I'm kinda upset here because I thought I had a ton of good pictures of the AZ Mazda crew, but most of them turned out like crap so we're just gonna skip from the morning of day 4 where Bill (rednecksRus) and myself helped support a very worthy charity, all the way though day's 5 and 6 when we were in LA and I again got very few decent pictures, to day 7 following the famous US 1 up the California coast.

#1: Bill and I helping raise money for a Katrina charity fund.

#2: Entering Highway 1

#3: Adam and I decide to go hiking

#4: Yup, that's the road way up there

Before anything is posted here I gotta give a big shoutout to Matthew, who put aside our differences and let me and my friend sleep in his home in Monterey. He was nothing but completely friendly and welcoming the entire time we were there, and I really appreciate it man.

These pictures are from the morning of day 8. Most of them were taken on the famed "17 mile trail" where the world renowned Pebble Beach Golf Club is located, along with more money than any of us will ever dream of.

#1: There were a lot of location in Monterey where the waves crashed up against the rocks, but this was my favorite.

#2: Adam decided he wanted to get a closer look at the waves. He didn't get hit with one, although he did almost get in some serious trouble (see #3 and 4).

#3: This was the rock that Adam stepped on to get out to the large outcropping seen in picture #2

#4: This is the exact same location about 5 minutes later when he tried to come back...

Fortunately the tide ebbed enough to allow him to step across while only soaking his shoe instead of his whole leg a few minutes later.

These pictures are still from day 8, except in the afternoon when we ventured into the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

#1: One more glimpse of the tumultuous Bay.

#2, 3, and 4: The magnificant life size whale sculptures that hang above the main hall of the aquarium.

The last set of pics. I'll upload some from Seattle later, but it's 5 AM and I'm tired.

#1: San Francisco's famous sea lions of Pier 37

#2: This guy sat in the same position for about 20 minutes. I guess he was trying to warm up his belly or something.

#3: This group was a lot of fun to watch. There was a younger sea lion who kept trying to get up onto the platform with them, and every time he got up, the big one got up and headbutted him off. The little guy kept at it for about 30 minutes until the biggun eventually gave up and let him lie down.

#4: Driving across the bridge.

#5: Walking across the bridge.

you said you went by loyola....happen to go by UNO? ....you guys went a very long way! looks nice though.
gotta love road trips eh?

edit: just re read and saw you didnt go to new orleans...just that someone did...is she alright?

Yeah she's fine. She was evacuated before it hit so it was no big deal. Realy sucks that she had finally decided on a school and had just barely started when she had to leave though. On the positive side, she loves U of Tulsa, so I guess it all worked out in the end.

same with me....i got out before the storm. i loved it there...always have. i went to school for one full week. haha.
i also love it at my new school, Florida Inst. of Tech. but i cant afford to stay here (about 27k) i have a full ride (meals, $500 in books, tuition, fees, and housing paid for) at UNO. moving back sometime soon. this week is the last week of class.
