What is wrong with them when they are black. Does that mean its burning fuel, and if so, what would cause that.

other than the tips being a bit narrow, coloration seems to be perfectly normal carbon
 
i posted some pics of my plugs a while ago and they were totally off-gapped and lots of carbon/other stuff on them......after a major CEL for misfiring and other stuff!
 
They look fine to me. You're supposed to be "burning fuel" thats what the plug does hehe ;)
 
yeah those were the iridum. COst a bit too much and I change my plugs every year anyway so I swapped to the g-power this time

One can only hope your engine is burning FUEL, otherwise it wouldn't run well at all... (I fixed punctuation for you in the quote, BTW)

All kidding aside, those plugs look fine. Don't waste you're money on iridium plugs. Just get the normal cheap NGK.
