gt28rs or gt2871?

I can't seem to find much info on the gt2871,and need to know if it would be a better option,if anyone has compresor maps for it,or knows the difference maybe they could help out.

I definaty have the mods to back it up,so please don't ask.

depends on how much power you want to make...
2871>28rs
what he said! The 2871 I think is good for close to 400whp if im not mistaking and the GT28RS is good for around 350whp

Thanks for asking the difference. I didn't know either. How close to 300whp could we get without killin' the tranny?

Are they the same size? I don't think anyone has tried to bolt-on a 71 in the stock location.

the 71 has the same flange as the 25 & 28r -rs it will bolt right on

it all depends on how you drive ... but i'd suggest getting a spare transmission if you go above 300 =\

Wicked -

Here's a dyno graph comparing the two on an Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T at 22 psi. The only things changed were the turbo and tuning (same boost level, etc.).

Which one you choose ultimately depends on where you want the power.

yeah thats sweet 315whp outta a 1.8L at 22psi, so on a 2L @ 25 psi it should be 350whp at a minimum. Or at least thats what I am hoping for :)

the audi 1.8t is a much better motor/car than the msp with a much better ecu. plus i'm figuring the audi had good tuning and has EMS. so don't be disappointed when you don't hit 350whp. not saying you can't or won't since i don't know your situation. just don't get your hopes to high.

I should be close to the 325whp range when all said and done, thats why i was wondering about the gt2871.I know it will bolt in,and according to MAM the only thing that doesn't bolt up is the intake, slightly larger dia.
basicaly just wondering if the gt28rs would be working to hard.

anyone know the trim size on the gt2871?

SCC has a small little article in the front of their recent mag comparing those two turbo's for a mild 350whp aplication. They say you lose a little output with the 28rs but the turbo is faster to spool. The 71R while no slow poke, still spooled slightly slower, but with greater output.

Just depends on what kind of characteristics you want your car to have.

And just so ya know... Beau has reccommended a 71R to me each and every time over the 28RS... if that tells ya anything. I think he was saying the spool difference is essentially nonexcistant.

I plan on doing the 71R.

I have the gt2871r in the stock location, and you need to run an external wastegate and make many oter mods to the oil and coolant lines along with the intake and the ic pipeing. Also look in my avatar at the size comparison to the stock t25 and the 2871r..its a very tight but good fit ..

so the 2871 doesn't have an internal wastegate?
I know the rs does,so I'm leaning towards that.

I think you can get it anyway you want it????? I thought Beau said that his revised kit will come with the 2871 and it will have an internal wastegate?????

Yes it is internally wastegated but if you want to put the turbo in the stock location(callaway mani) it wont fit b/c of the way the internal wastegate is positoned on the turbo due to the size of the compressor houseing

well what about the gt28rs will it fit with the internal wastegate?I would realy like to keep it internal with the factory s-pipe,and manifold.(street legal apperance)
