Anyone have any information or opinions about cad plating? I wanted some cad plated rotors from corksport (pretty colors :D ) but they stopped selling x-drilled like I wanted, so I am considering buying some rotorworks ones and having them cadplated on my own....

i dont know where ot have cad plating done though, if any place that says they can cad plate something is ok to cadplate my rotors or if it needs to be an automotive place or something, how much this costs and now, since I just stumbled upon the following, is it safe also?

Cadmium Plated Rotors
StopTech does not condone or recommend the use of Cadmium plated rotors. Cadmium is a toxic carcinogen produced through smelting for other metals such as copper or zinc. In addition to the negative environmental effects, StopTech has actually found Cad plating to be a hindrance to properly bedding-in brake rotors. The Cad plating on the swept surface of the rotor needs to be burned off before a proper pad layer can be transferred to the rotor. During the bed-in period, while the Cad is still rubbing off, stopping distances can be substantially longer. When Cad plated rotors are used on the track, all of the Cad plating burns off of the rotor, and the corrosion protection is lost.

makes it sound like braking ability is lessened until cad plating wears off at which point no color would be left soooo no reason to plate in the first place...

also if you have the cad plated rotors from corksport, how has the coloring stood up, how did they perform etc etc?

Had my Brembo's cadmium coated on my Prelude from the same place that I purchased them. I think it was $10 a rotor, so $40 in total. Mine were not coated to a color, just the basic silver so it looked like stock.

I felt no adverse affects when stoping after installation and it is a bunch of BS that the protective coating will wear off. Think about it, of course the protective coating will wear off where the brake pad surface is in contact with the rotor. That probably wears off as soon as you hit the brakes the first time but what was of importance is that the hub, outer perimeter of the rotor and in between the two rotors (vented rotors) will not be prone to rust. There are no items that come in contact with the above parts of the rotor so the coating will not be worn away.

I had my rotors on the car for about 2 years before I sold it and there were no signs of rust. Well worth the $40.

Here is a pic of my rotors a year after installation.
