My dad's RX300 was stolen!

It was stolen out of the valet lot of a restaurant in Miami. It's a 2002 white Lexus RX300...he just put new tires on 2 days ago & some of his stuff was inside. Apparently, the valet guys were busy & didn't lock the key locker, so the thief must have just opened it, taken the key, & driven off. I'm sure this is a long shot, but if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. He already filed a police report, but I don't know how much good that will do.

Just so that I'm on topic, here's a pic (with my car):

It's the valet company's fault, good thing they're insured for that... What restaurant? It's pretty common down on South Beach for cars to get taken from valet lots since many of them are also open to people looking to park their own cars and the key boxes are in plain sight, not to mention that many valets are too busy talking to friends or giving directions. Just a few weeks ago a couple's 3 series got stolen from the valet lot while dining where I work. I'll keep an eye open, though.

Sounds like an inside job or some kind of connection to me if you understand what I am talking about.

In the country where I come from, people always check their cars milage and gas level right after they get their cars back from the valets cause many of them a know for crusing your car around if you happen to have cool sport cars handed to them. I were even story about illegal street racing and crashes involved with valets using customers' cars.

Sorry I took so long to update...my dad's car was found by the police. The car itself was fine, but they took about $2k worth of stuff from inside. As a result, we had to change the locks on the house & get a new key for the car, but everything is cool now.

is the insurance goijng to cover the stuff stolen
The deductible for the owner of the valet is $2500, but my dad got a lawyer who does all the work for their company to take this pro bono.

If your car is stolen.. statistically, we'll find it locally within a few days (usually between 2-3). Smaller cities and 25 mile area that is. Larger cities like Miami... I'm not 100% sure. But the insurance company should pay out after 30 days of the vehicle being stolen. In Miami and other areas near the coast, it's real easy to get alot of those cars into other countries by ship or freighter... they sometimes take it to a local "chop-shop" and part it out or paint & modify it where it won't be recognized. The VIN # is usually scratched out or replaced by a fictious small metal plate. The other VIN is usually located somewhere on the engine.. they usually don't replace it or even bother looking for it. We've recovered motors without the rest of the car, but because it still has a VIN on it, we can nail which car it belonged to. When your vehicle is entered into the nationwide system, it will tell other law enforcement agencies that run the tag information or VIN that it's stolen out of wherever the originating agency is. Also, if that person runs the information and for some unforsaken reason, doesn't pull the car over... a confirmation that the plate was run will go to the originating agency as well. So say an officer in California enters the stolen vehicle in the system today, tomorrow, an officer in Kansas runs the plate. The California agency that entered it will get a message to the system operator or officer to let them know someone from Kansas just ran that same plate. Anyways... you get the idea... just rest assurred, "if they steal it.... we will come." lol

Oh and glad you got the car back. Where'd they find it btw????

It was in some small side street in Miami, key was gone.

On a good note, I got to drive my dad's Jaguar S-Type 4.2 V8 rental car for the few days his car was gone...wow was that fun! :D
