painting calipers

03.5 Speed sunsilver
Ok, searched...and it's all on opinions, no how-to and such.

Never done this before, so just wondering how to do it and if it's very hard. I have a 3.5 sun-silver speed and am prolly going to paint them red (although the polls and such pointed out that black would look pretty sick too.....). Can i just go to autozone or something, pick up some paint, take wheels off, and go for it, or what?

ps...they gotta be SHINY, no dull crap--best paint?
pps...if a sun-silver has black OR red, post a pic.

Thanks guys,
Tony

G2 Caliper paint. Everything you need in the kit. Very nice and very durable.

I used the following items:

Wire brush
Brake cleaner
Foam brush
High temp spray paint

1. Brush off any loose crap, rust, etc.
2. Spray it with brake cleaner
3. Spray some paint on the foam brush
4. Dab it on the caliper
5. Wait, and reapply. You can put as many layers as you want, but 3 did just fine for me.

Total job cost me about $6 (I already had a wire brush, you could probably also use sandpaper)

Some people say that the paint will just rub off the rotor surface if you spray everything. I think it's easier to just use the foam brush.

PS - I think yellow would be awesome, ala Porsche GT2.

yes, i recommend this stuff, its great i've used it on my old car. Only thing is once you mix all the ingredients together you only have like 4 hrs b4 the paint dries up.

I cut it close on my 240sx because i was using only one jack and doing each one at a time and putting the rims back on b4 the calipers were fully dried.

But it ended up being ok no problems

Can you just go to Autozone and get that kit? Is it hard to take the calipers off? Anyone with pics (after or during?)?

Thanks a ton.

Check out eBay: (I don't think I've seen it at most auto-parts stores)

I got my G2 kit off ebay too. I painted them red and the calipers are still shiny (a few months ago). Like 'hookedup' said, you have only a limited time before the paint starts to turn into a rubbery mess. I did two wheels at a time and I barely made it to the last caliper (I was giving each caliper two coats...plus, it was one of the hottest days).

Good luck!

BAD DOGIE!

My poor molested MSP had some whacko paint the calipers yellow. It looks like a combination of nasty ass and dirt. When the car arrives (if it ever does) the first order of buisness is to reapaint the calipers gloss black.

I've Attached this image of my car so you can see how nasty it looks for yourself. The caliper will get brake dust and crap on it and make it looks like a horses ass gone wrong.

Ohhhh yea... In terms of paint. Get the high temp 1200 ceramic crap and the high temp 1200 degree gloss. Standard "caliper paint" is like 600-800 degree resistant, and breaks down easily. The high temp paint and high temp gloss ensures a nice glossy caliper that withstands heat 2x's more.

So, you're saying don't get this G2 kit or whatever...just go buy the 1200 ceramic/high temp serperately? Where?

PS: how much for the unichip? :)

Hmm, I might get around to doing this some day, what color you guys think would look good on a black mica? Maybe I'll just go with silver, since that is how they are supposed to look anways.
