New CM clutch already fried?

The Fidanza uses steel plates like any other flywheel, I don't see why it would be the problem...??

I'm betting the clutch gave up the ghost.

Steel isn't just steel though... it could be 1018, 1040, 1144, 4130, hot rolled, cold rolled, forged, cast, tempered, annealed etc... so it may be an issue there.

Either way, there seem to be enough issues that could probably be traced back to the fidanza that I certainly don't plan on ever using it.

i dont know. all i know is that i beat the living piss out of my car. enough to blow a head gasket. I have dragged it over 50 times and made some dyno pulls. i get into boost everyday. And my CM stage IIR clutch still holds good.

Could it have something to do with the faster revving of the flywheel?

I was just saying that I think any steel would win a friction contest with that clutch. I don't know really.

oh well, we will see how it fairs with the thumper power. Then we should know relatively soon if it is gonna puss out or stick around. I believe the former will happen.

Right, but my thought is one form of steel may wear a clutch faster than another or so forth.. that's all.. none of us are experts enough to really know though in end I'd guess I sure as hell am not! LOL.

I talked with michael at SRD (the folks doing my install) www.superiorracing.com and he doesn't seem to think the flywheel would cause it but he says you never know. He mentioned that sometimes people have trouble with aluminum flywheels.

If it turns out the flywheel was causing a problem we'll go with a heavier cro-moly (I beleive that's the right word) flywheel, but he's doubtfull the flywheel is the cause.

They're going to start tearing it apart either tomorrow or Monday and he says he'll take pictures. One thing is for sure SRD is one class act and they know how to make FAST cars, hence their 10 second civic.

well, how long has anyone really put on a spec clutch and fidanza flywheel yet?

Bigg Timm are you running the fidanza?

Linux has only had a few miles on his new clutch etc. Also, kooldino has only had a few K miles as well.

Lets just wait and see what time will tell.

Then again it could be something specific to the CM clutch mated to the fidanza flywheel that causes the problems too. (ie friction material etc).

NOPE, got the stocker here. I wasn't sure about going with one, so I held off until next time. I may just stay with what works, if anything I may go with the MSP one. I didn't even get the stock flywheel resurfaced when I did the replacement because it did'nt look as if it was needed and no signs of ill effects.

There's no way in hell I can go without my car for that long. As of now I've canceled my order with R-R for this product and just plan on either finding a good deal on another aluminum flywheel or finding a stock protege or MSP flywheel....

What exactly is the difference between the reg MP3 stock flywheel and the MSP one?

The MSP one is a few lbs lighter, I think something like 18lbs or so. The MP3 one is over 20lbs I believe. I think Kooldino has a flywheel if you need it.

The standard flywheel is 18 lbs for the 2.0-liter motor.

The 1.8 is 15 lbs...The Mazdaspped flywheel you are thinkign about is also 9 lbs.

The MSP has a standard 2.0-liter flywheel, I thought.

The undertaking of the instlal begins tomorow. I will let everyone know what the verdict is tomorrow night. Regardless- that fidanza flywheel is coming out- the stock one back in- the new spec stage III in- and a new msp LSD in as well

you getting the 6 puck stage 3 hybrid or the full-faced one?

I think I'll be forced to utilize the full face, but I've heard its only a little more stout than stock in the pedal feel dept.

6puck stage III "hybrid" hehe.. Everything is at the shop now. The only thing I didn't pick up was the speedo gear- hopefully they don't break it.

I bought the full face hybrid clutch. Be prepared to spend close to $580 for it though...

The verdict is in!!!!!

Take a look at the clutch.... The full faced side of the disk has completely come apart. Also the FW contact plate is badly grooved. The pressure plate looks great, no damage. I would say it was a failure of the clutch disk. - Per Michael at SRD

Damn CM clutch.
