Ok ive searched on the net, and read in here. I've noticed that once again with the exhaust, people seem to think there isnt much of a diff...so what is the cheapest option for now saying im cheap theoretically (cat back wise, nothing else)

Answer

The cheapest answer to what you want is this... Go buy a universal muffler...one that would look absolutly fabulous on your car and take it to a muffler shop...have them install 2.25" piping from the cat back. That whole setup should run you no more than $250. I paid 135 for my muffler and about $100 for piping and install. It sounded good too. When you buy a "cat-back" from like Greddy or Bosal, you are paying for the company to do all the work and charge lots. you can save lots of $$ by what I told you.

Benny...

when you buy a greddy or bosal system...you're really paying for the r&d that went into the system...they've tested and retested the system to make sure there is optimal performance...and te craftsmanship of the system...greddy systems are great quality and look so clean (my brother has one)...but yes what BD said is cheaper...but you'll probably see better results with a greddy system rather then a universal muffler...

hmmm...that must be the "custom" exhaust people talk about...hmmm...is it illegal to have them remove the cat in all states or just where there is emission inspection...cause that shouldnt cost much more right?

It is illegal to remove the cat in the US, if the car was manufatured with one. Of course you can always use the J.C. Whitney theory: substitute the cat with a piece of pipe and tell the authorities that you are testing to see if the cat is defective. In addition, I believe there is a sensor or two in the cat that is attached to the ECU that the OBD programming needs to see. Jim

Cat-off

I was told that if you take the cat off, you would have a perma-check engine light on and also you would have the emissions problems. If you are looking for HP, I would go for the intake and exhaust and leave the cat... or maybe look into a hi-flow cat.

ps - i was pissed i got home from work to late (dropped off my baby for a detail the dealership owned me cause i got it after the detail guy went home, had to pick up a plain ole protege for a ride for tommorrow while they also fix a small ding one of the salesman put in my right fender) to call the muffler shops, they were all closed...i hate that s***, im a person that hates to wait...it killed me cause i applied for the car new years eve at 3pm and the bank had left for the day so i had to wait until the second ARGH!!! THAT damn near killed me!!!

A pic of my old baby

Here is what my car looked like in its first stage... all the carbon fiber goodness...

thats odd, no questions. hmmm. whats ur email? i would call but im typing in between commercials of in the line of fire

incidently, the most important question was, does the piping have to be 2.25 in because most of the mufflers i see are 2.5

piping

unless you are turbo'd, the best piping performance wise is 2.25". THe car needs backpressure to run smoothly and therefor if you can use 2.25, it gives ample backpressure but also lets the gasses out better than the standard 2" pipe. The muffle though is what makes a big difference...if you did that and a cold air intake (Injen) you would feel a difference.
