design me a tattoo

i've been wanting to get a tattoo for a while, but i want something original and have negative drawing ability (i make people around me draw worse). it would either go on my arm or back/shoulder, and i don't want it too big. i've been thinking of getting a dragon band around my arm but i need to find a good looking dragon. i've also thought about getting "power" and "respect" on each shoulder blade in russian (everyone does chinese/japanese so i thought i'd be different, and i'm kinda russian ). anyone else have any ideas, or want to draw something cool for me?

from past experience, friends of mine that have had a friend of theirs design a tattoo for them have either ended up in drama, a broken friendship, or a waste of time.


if you're really set on getting a custom tattoo, do like i did...

scour around until you find an artist who's custom work you are really intrigued by. ask them how much they cost to draw up a design, and what their rates are. most of them won't even draw something without a deposit, so be careful.

i got a one of a kind piece, drawn up for me and tattooed for a total of 700$. theoretically, to get this done someplace else would have been about 1500$. if you get a good design idea in to the artists head, he more than likely will give it to you for a deal, provided you let him have a little bit of artistic freedom, and you allow him to submit your design in to competition.

cool, when i get really serious i'll look into having an artist do it. i was just hoping some people on here who like to draw/ps stuff could come up with something cool and at the very least give me some ideas

the other thing you have to remember is that its permanant.

a lot of my friends have gotten spur-of-the-moment tattoo's, and they end up regretting them for the rest of their lives. not one weekend goes by that i'm out with my friends that one of them doesn't complain about their tattoo.


i have a deeply personal reason behind my chest piece, and because of that, i don't regret it at all. in fact, i'm extremely proud of it. i don't flash it to everyone, nor do i make it the topic of conversation whenever i'm out or i meet someone new. but i love it, and it means a ton to me.


just be careful when you're messing around with something like tattoos. s*** can get ugly really quick. not only design wise, but self-esteem / self-image wise.

that's why i haven't gotten one yet, i haven't found something yet that i would want to be on me permanently. i have friends that have gotten bad tattoos and have had to get more tattoos to cover them up, so i know i need to be careful

Look in books and magazines, that's one way of getting ideas. Or on the net, I used net images and then photochoped them for my latest.(see avatar)

see, the problem with ideas i have is that i can't complete them due to no drawing ability and minimal photoshop skills

the coolest tattoo i ever saw was method man's on his forearm where right side up it says "life" and upside down it says "death". if i could come up with something that creative i'd def. get it

I charge for tattoo designs. I do tribal, realism, anime, ect.

i want just black and white. the ones that look a little reddish are cool too, but mostly black and white
i probably want a chinese dragon, but not with a cartoony face like a lot of them have, with a mean face
some ideas:
1) i kinda like the dragon on the shirt
2) with a more detailed dragon, and just a solid ring around the outside instead of the whole blue color thing
3) that dragon looks pretty cool, i'm not sure how it would translate to b&w though
4) it's alright
5) dragon looks nice and mean

2) chinese symbol for dragon (not a big fan of symbols, too overplayed)
3) with a different, more mean head on the dragon this would look cool
