2012 Mazda5 Sport 6-speed
Our 2012 Mazda 5 Sport. The reverse lockout mechanism is broken. It's a plastic part at the bottom of the shift lever. Anyone ever replace the shift lever and/or mechanism?

60k & out of warranty.

Thanks JMJ

Okay... so can anyone recommend a reliable used parts supplier for Mazda parts?

Thanks - JMJ

I have been trying to find the parts online for a few days now. That actual parts diagram for a 2012 is surprisingly hard to find. If it were me I would remove the busted stuff and take it to a local dealer and get them to find the part numbers for me. Then take those part numbers to a parts house of your choice (I like onlinemazdaparts.com) Given that yours has broken, I would be loathe to trust USED parts in this application, my 2 cents

PN found

The whole assembly is CD8746100A. Jim Ellis Mazda has them. If I found a used on I'd fabricate a new metal replacement of the broken part. Maybe even add a grease fitting on the sliding shaft.

The issue is I can only get the whole assembly. Only one part is broken though, but the whole assembly has to come out to fix it. I'd rather get a cheaper used replacement and replace/reinforce the failed part at the bottom of the stick shift without losing use of the car for many days.

It might be worth looking here and giving them a call. They're usually pretty good about finding the parts, and they might have it so you don't have to purchase the whole assembly.

update - I had the shifter mechanism replaced with a new assembly from MazdaSwag. They had the best price when shipping is taken into account.

I know this is an old thread but I bumped into it recently when this happened to mine, so figured I’d throw a reply here incase it helps, I ended up designing and 3D printing one because I couldn’t find any decent replacements. I can’t seem to upload the file here. But if anyone else responds to this and feels it would be helpful I’ll find a way to get it to them.
Cheers

Thanks for the offer...What file type is it?

@Zorra it appears you're using the file type .3mf I've added it to the list, can you try attaching the file in a post to see if it works. Being able to share 3D Printing designs/files would be very cool!

I’m going to try this, thank you for sharing!!

Hey guys. I have same issue. Reverse lockout piece is gone. Can just slide right over to reverse without pushing shifter down.

How do you just replace the piece if I were to do the 3d printed thing? I just snap it on or something?

I also have the option to find a whole assembly from a junkyard and even then, do I remove the lockout piece and just put it onto my shifter? I don’t really understand. Would love some help please thank you!

I just commented on this post. I would love some help. I’m trying to figure out where to start even if I were to get somebody to replicate this with a 3-D printer.

Hey, yeah its a very easy replacement. You need to remove the shifter boot, it's just held in with some clips, and the shift knob you can just grab and unthread. Then you need a torx bit to remove the two bolts holding the shifter down, then when you have the shifter out you can use a snap ring tool to remove the snap ring off the broken piece on the bottom of the shifter and just replace it with the printed one, it looks a little different but that was intentional to keep it from breaking again.

OK awesome it seems like I might need to remove the blower motor so that I can pull off the whole assembly? Or maybe it’s the like shifter rods that need to pop off or something cause it seems like I can’t pull it off after unbolting all four of the bolts that hold it on. Or are you able to get your hand behind it and get it on from the bottom?

Nope not that complicated, you get the bolts out and the assembly will pull right out, I guess pop the linkages off as well and anything around it. but definitely don't worry about trying to do it while it's in, and no need to remove blower motor. If you try and it doesn't work I'll post a video

You’re awesome. Headed to pick up the 3d part right now. And yes from what I can see it looks like two linkages need to be popped off. Any special way of doing that? They just pop off?

Get a pry tool all the way between the linkage and where it connects, its a little ball and socket style clip. So ideally if you have a body clip pry tool that has the two prongs, then you can get them on either side of the ball. But if not a regular pry on one side should do the trick

I think it’s possible to not need to actually pry the ball joints out as long as you unbolt the four bolts holding the whole assembly on so you can get your hand back there.

I’m assuming the piece goes in this way?
