Help with hard reset

Well, I tried jumping my 2014 cx5, 80k miles, always has ran great, and the jump start it didn’t even seem to make a difference. No electricity of any kind. So, I started checking fuses testing relay boxes. Couldn’t find anything that was faulty. Decided to try jumping it again, and after leaving it on the jumper cables for longer, 15 minutes, it started fine.

Except…..now all kinds of warning and engine lights are on and it runs like s***. Doesn’t shift smooth at all. After driving it a hundred yards, I pulled into a parking lot and turned it off. I then tried disconnecting the battery cables and let it sit for 15 minutes. Reconnected them and started it up fine, but same thing; all kinds of engine warning lights on and drives super clunky.

Then, I got a new battery. Still all the warning lights (warning, check engine, scbs, abs….)and clunky driving. I feel like because I was checking fuses and relay boxes I messed something up. It’s always ran perfectly before that.

People are saying alternator, but there were no signs of weak alternator before this and it ran perfectly.

Have been trying to do some kind of factory reset, by unhooking battery terminals and reconnecting them, but nothing changed.

At this point I’m planning on getting it towed to a Mazda service mechanic.

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks.

Is it possible that the jumper cables were installed backwards, ie negative to positive and positive to negative? I think I saw a post here once where someone did that and it fried some electronics.

Do you have a battery charger? Give the new battery a solid full charge at home?

Next question is why did you need a jump in the first place? Battery old? Some accessory or light left on?

Any corrosion on the terminals? Nice and tight?

I had to jump it because I left a dome light on. Now I have a new battery. No corrosion on terminals.

So, it's good that there is a known reason why the battery was flat. A completely dead battery or pulling battery cables off will reset some modules. That could be why some hard shifts while modules relearn.

Do you have a battery charger? If not you could start the car and just let it idle for awhile 30 minutes or so.

If you're sure there wasn't any crossed cables during the first jump start attempt, next I would want to scan for DTC's and see what's coming up and clear them and see what comes back.

Three relevant links. Not saying you did this, but it sounds very familiar:

Please get the car scanned and let us know what codes show up.

Since you can't get it to a parts store, you may need to use one of the bluetooth modules.
