2025 Mazda CX-5 Front and Rear Foglight Retrofit

Hello,

I hope everyone is alright. I am not new to Mazda, but I am totally new to Mazda's customization. I was wondering if anyone knows and can confirm if the Mazda CX-5 2022 and onwards is prewired for rear and front fog lights.

Living in Germany for 14 years has given me a new appreciation for how helpful rear fog lights are and how safe they can make you in foggy situations.

Planning to buy the following fog lights
cx-5_yourself_signature-style_img.jpg

I think they look fantastic. and It really makes the car pop.

The part numbers that I will need so far are
KSD6-V4-680 (LED Accessory Lamp)
K49C-V7-790 (Mounting Harness)
BAEK-66-122 - Blinker Stalk unit with Fog light F/R

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would not expect there is a wiring harness for foglights as they are not offered as of 2022 as far as I know. It would all be aftermarket.

I checked the harness leading to that point; unfortunately, it is missing wires. Mazda retrofits are very obscure, to say the least, and documentation does not exist that can help you with these projects.

As far as I know, the 2022 CX-5 usually comes with the fog light wiring system installed, both front and rear. Or am I confusing it with something else?

up to 2021 - yes. 2022- models dont have fog lights anymore. For some reason Mazda decided not to add them on any trim.
For rear - they prob have it for the other markets as in Europe rear are mandatory.

I'm SO glad Mazda removed them. They are useless for real fog and only get used by wannabees. The glare is so annoying when approaching a car with them on, on wet roads.

Seems like many people have this opinion/experience. But, we’ve got a house in the North Carolina mountains and when the fog is thick on those twisty deer laden roads, man, I’m glad for the (factory) fog lights on my wife’s CRV. They are lowish to the ground and spread a bit to the sides. That avoids the headlights glaring right back at you and allows the edges of the narrow roads to be seen. I’d love to have them on my new cx50 hybrid.

are you saying fog lights can be turned on without headlights?
What I said was absolutely misleading because at night I will have the headlights on. But the fog lights definitely define the roadway and improve driver visibility without adding to the glare and for me it’s very helpful on the thick as pea soup nights. As to whether they operate without the headlights…geez, not sure.

I can't understand why anyone would think taking the fog lights away (as they did from 22 on) would be a benefit. Why wouldn't you want to have extra light available at night or in inclement conditions?

The fog lights were removed as the headlights improved with better beam pattern and light intensity. I currently have a 2024 without fog lights, previously had a 2020 with fog lights, and I prefer the lighting on the 2024.

But wouldn't it be even better with fog lights as well as the improved headlights? I was not aware Mazda did anything functionally to the headlights. I thought it was mainly the DRL portion that was changed. Don't remember reading anything about an improvement in the changes for 22.

This article from Mazda only says they are changed visually. I would have expected them to say they were improved in performance. Of course they don't mention the fog lights were removed. 2022 Mazda CX-5 Receives Elegant Enhancements

Because:
a) The Mazda (and many other current brands) foglights are not that great. They are primarily there for those who think "it's cool".
b) Idiots have them on all the time (see (a)), so that the down-facing lights reflect off wet roads into the eyes of oncoming drivers.
c) Having them on at night does not provide useful information to the driver at normal speeds, who should be looking & concentrating far down the road, not down right in front of the car or to the sides of the car.
d) For whatever reason (as mentioned previously) they don't come on unless the headlights are on, thus defeating the whole purpose of reduced glare in fog/snow.

Don't get me wrong, for those that have to travel (at reduced speeds) in heavy fog/mist/snow, properly designed and aimed fog lights are a godsend (provided you can use them without headlights).
