2018 CX-5 Transmission fluid change question

7 liters??? If your dealer did the drain-and-fill for you they’ve made some money from you by exaggerating the ATF amount! You need less than 5 liters even if the dealer dropped the pan to replace the filter cartridge.

No it’s a filter cartridge / strainer there, not a fine screen.

Don’t do that. See my previous post.
Sorry my friend you must have quantities mixed up, right out of the service manual and I have no idea how your has a paper filter unless it was done already once. Mine was a fine mesh screen right from the dealer.

These specs listed in the manual are TOTAL capacity for each transmission. You won’t be able to drain all ATF out from an automatic transmission as almost a half of it is resided in the torque converter、oil passage、and differential chamber which can’t be drained out from pan plug. And Mazda OEM filter cartridge / strainer FZ01-21-500 for SkyActiv-Drive transmission definitely is not a fine mesh screen.

Again, if you did ATF drain-&-fill by yourself, you couldn’t drain out 7 liters of factory ATF from pan plug.

Here is the ATF filter cartridge / strainer for Mazda’s SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission showed in Mazda’s Workshop Manual:

It’s not a fine mesh screen.

This could be the very cold atmosphere temperature when you did the ATF drain-&-fill?
No. Atmosphere has nothing to do with internal oil temps. Oil temp at 122 degrees is 122 degrees.

Interesting. Must be different per transmission? For the MX-5, the ATF should be 136—144 °F.

That is different. Maybe because there' no dipstick? The procedure states 7 liters, but I think they probably mean total fluid amount in the trans for component replacement or major repair.

Good info. Definitely need to do 2 or 3 drain/refills given the amount of oil that circulates in the tranny. Similar to what I've done on my 13 Lincoln MKX.
