2017~2025 CX-5 Automatic Transmission service?

:
2021 CX-5 GTR
Has anyone had a transmission fluid service done recently? I asked my dealer, who told me it wasn’t needed until 150k. I thought that sounded ridiculous and asked how much it would be anyway. $410 was the quote I received, which seems very high. I paid $275 at the Nissan dealer for my 2020 Frontier.

Yeah, that's pretty pricy!! I think they have to take down the air breather system to access the top of the trans. I'll have mine done at 60,000.

Here in SF Bay Area, drain-n-refill ATF used to cost about $200.
A couple yrs ago, it was about $250.
Now, maybe $300 with inflation. (oil change was $49, now $99 for comparison)

Anyway, $410 seems high even with SF Bay Area high prices.

Check other dealers or indie shops, I would suggest.

BTW, I have ATF drain-n-refill on 30k interval for all my four Mazdas.

IF you go to a dealership for this service. Make sure that they don't try to sell you, and charge you for, a transmission flush.

Without a special/custom adapter, a fluid flush can't be done on these Mazda transmissions.

And if I recall, Mazda recommends against transmission flushes anyway.

Of course they do! Their shop can't/won't do it and they don't want you taking your Mazda anywhere else.

Besides, it's a 'lifetime' fill right? ;)

It’s $9 a quart of trans fluid Aisin FZ on rock auto and 30 mins of work. You only need 4 quarts for a D&F unless you want to do it 3x. $36 and 30 mins…I don’t know what a dealer would be doing for $410.

Making dinner reservations at a fancy restaurant.

Had a drain/fill at the dealer last month. $120.03.
I wish I had your dealership close by. I got another quote at an indie Japanese specialist. They want 299 for the job. If I was out of warranty I would do it myself, but I want a record of it being done.

I know, it's amazing. I had coolant drain/filled along with the tranny work and that was $78.97. It's amazing what some dealers think they can get away with. Hint: Honda.

What exactly was included for the $410 quote? Just a drain and fill?

For just a drain and fill, I would expect $150-200. To drop the pan and replace the filter in addition to replacing the fluid, I'd guess that it would be closer to $400.

I happily paid about $130 CDN for the fluid and did 2x drain and fills myself.

Hopefully most shops take into account AT fluid thermal expansion for drain and refill replacement fluid volume of a vehicle that just pulled in for service. On any vehicle I’ve done AT volume based replacements I either left vehicle in garage with replacement fluids overnight or in a few instances weighed the fluid old/new which were at different temps.
