2023 CX-5 2.5T ... 2024 MX-5 RF GT
I thought it was just me! None of my other vehicles ever did this. It must be related to how well it's sealed up.on my CX-5 it's the way it fogs up inside in the winter.

Yes LX25. Quiet on the road, better handling, longer wearing, more supple. Is it the LX25? In what ways is it best? Sorry, handling wise or comfort wise?
I find the doors hard to latch on a gentle swing. The seals are magicI thought it was just me! None of my other vehicles ever did this. It must be related to how well it's sealed up.
Thanks for sharing this. My CRV came with even crappier tires than we have on the CX-5, lol. It's true I (we all) find something to love and hate with every brand but make no mistake, there are far more brands that I'd never own (even for free), than that I would own. The best vehicle I have owned to date was my '09 Nissan Frontier. Never had a single issue with it during the 195K miles that I owned it. That said, I HATE the crappy/choppy rides that trucks have and I swore to myself that I'd never own another truck after I traded it in for my CRV. The Conti CCs have the most unusual tread pattern I've ever seen on a mainstream tire. It almost doesn't make sense, but it just works well for everything. It occurs to me that you bought the wrong vehicle and like every other brand, we all find something unsettling that we almost can't live with. On my Toyota it was the hard seats, on my CX-5 it's the way it fogs up inside in the winter. As for tires, I'm convinced that every manufacturer has a better tire than what you currently have and some are true depending on your expectations. Wouldn't it be a b**** if you spent $1200 on new tires and ended up sacrificing handling or worse yet no real improvement at all. I went out of my way to find the exact same tires that the manufacturer originally put on my 2018 CX-5, they had to come from Montreal. 134,000 Km and six years later and I'm only on my second set. Noisy tires are generally "gripier" with a more aggresive tread and a bit harder rubber to keep the tread flat on the pavement. These cars are known globally for handling and sometimes that requires a tire without "wallowy" sidewalls. Pity the guy that bought a Jeep, those knobby tires must drive him around the bend but by golly it'll get him anywhere, any time of year. CX-5's have a very taught suspension - I've never seen a fatter antir-roll bar on a car it's size in all my life. The one on my '65 Impala isn't that fat. So whatever you do have the tire joint guarantee that what they sell you won't compromise the agility of your ride. I can almost hear the BS coming out of their mouths. "Quite tires mean softer compounds and that means more wear in less time, but don't worry we'll have something better in 30,000 Km's time that we can sell you, for a price".
I'm definitely getting those or Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3/ Michelin Primacy AS but those 2 are 17" and up. Primacy has acoustic foam but unsure if it'll cancel out or make minor differences.Yes LX25. Quiet on the road, better handling, longer wearing, more supple.
I had Scorpions (not sure which exact model) on a truck once and I was disappointed with them. I love a supple ride and quieter. Yokohama Geolandar G91A are noisy and stiff![]()

Ok yes I read Pirelli is quiet and smoothest but quality sucks.I had Scorpions (not sure which exact model) on a truck once and I was disappointed with them. They wore rapidly.![]()
I'd be interested to hear what others say who are using them on other vehicles. I can say that they are the go to tires for the Gen 5 CRV. It's all over the Honda CRV forums.Ok yes I read Pirelli is quiet and smoothest but quality sucks.
Maybe Continental CrossContact LX25
Thx![]()
I think it's everywhere. Even the hood has a crazy seal around it, which audibly un-sticks every time I open it.Did Mazda add seals or soundproofing to the hatch, and wheel wells?
My CX-5 doors all sound solid when shut and outdoors, it makes a solid quiet thud. My 2014 Mazda3 is tinny, hollow and cheap soundingI think it's everywhere. Even the hood has a crazy seal around it, which audibly un-sticks every time I open it.
Indeed, this is very well said.It occurs to me that you bought the wrong vehicle and like every other brand, we all find something unsettling that we almost can't live with. I love the CX-5 it's quiet and fairly smooth. No vehicle in its class can match the refinement and value. I've gotten used to the stiffer suspension but the 235/70R16 set up is looking promising. I don't think it should be too cushy but retain comfort while handling isn't compromised.Indeed, this is very well said.
OP, do you enjoy that the Mazda is firm and taut (for a crossover) around turns? Or are you prioritizing ride comfort?
For example, I prioritize handling to the point where, even my 6 doesn't quite live up to my expectations in some scenarios, though I certainly can't complain either.
That's a sacrifice im willing to make for the jarring ride over bad roads. I prioritize being low to the ground, fast responses and sharp feedback from the chassis and steering.
If you just want a cushy ride, I agree that changing tires might not give you exactly what you're looking for.

Thoughts?
Ok TyIt sounds like your gripes with the ride quality is minor enough that indeed the cushier tires could very well provide you with what you're looking for, provided you select the right tires. Indeed Mazda's are designed for Japanese roads which are much better than what we have here in Canada, so it's not a knock against the way the vehicle was tuned or designed at all. It's still meant to be a comfortable car.
If you option for a 7.5" wheel ET 50, then by all means, go for a 235 width tire, though it isn't necessary.
If you're getting a 7" wide wheel, just another friendly reminder that 235 will be too wide, and that won't mount any wider or larger on the wheel.
Difficult to find the 16x7.5 size. It's telling me vehicle modification is necessary since too wide?It sounds like your gripes with the ride quality is minor enough that indeed the cushier tires could very well provide you with what you're looking for, provided you select the right tires. I found this website for 5x114.3, 16x7.5 but I'm trying to look for 45 offset and 67.1 centre bore but most of these are bigger than that. I can use centering rings to bring it down to 67.1ish.It sounds like your gripes with the ride quality is minor enough that indeed the cushier tires could very well provide you with what you're looking for, provided you select the right tires. Konig which is a decent brand, looks promisingI like the Oversteer in Gloss White

Konig Oversteer
Price displayed above is per wheel. The Oversteer is a face forward, split 5-spoke design with an aggressive attitude especially in the wider fitments as the wheel face profile increases in its concave look. The Konig Interflow has the +45 offset but it's not in stockNice silver finish, though...

how's quality on these?
Um I've never hit potholes but it's so difficult to find rims for 235/70R16I find that OEM tends to be more durable. My dad was driving on some Ray's racing Mazda speed wheels and bent the rim over a pothole near Toronto, causing a slow leak. I'm sure that aftermarket wheels will be fine so long as you drive carefully with them.
Maybe stick with 7.5"?Since we are on wheel talk here right now, does anyone know if 8" rims will work on the late gen CX-5 without rubbing when the wheels are turned? I'd really like to have 235 or 245 tires if I get my own CX-5.
