Screeching noise when accelerating (2015 CX-5 2.2L Diesel)

Hi there we have a diesel cx5 2.2ltr 2015. When we accelerate a gradually increasing high pitch sound is very very load, see attached.

Been to 2 garages both said it's nothing to worry about, however it's extremely loud and annoying. Hope someone can give some advice. Also main dealer is booked up for 3 months and is an hour away, so trying to see if I can fix or at least identify the issue.

That screeching noise definitely isn’t normal. These 2 garages saying “normal” just didn’t want to deal with it. Which country are you in and it’d take 3 months to visit a Mazda dealer is unbelievable.

My guess is your CX-5 either has a bad serpentine belt tensioner, or bad engine / transmission mounts since the screeching noise happens only during acceleration.

Honestly if your 2015 CX-5 2.2D diesel with 205,317 km / 127,578 miles hasn’t had any major issues, consider yourself lucky. Sudden overheating without any warnings, and sudden broken oil pump chain are 2 major issues on your 2.2D. Search the forum. Unload your CX-5 2.2D whenever you can.

Yeah I agree, I am in ireland and every mechanic is fully booked and main dealer within an hour drive at least. Thanks for your reply

It sounds pretty loud, but sometimes a fairly insignificant part can make a lot of noise. So maybe that is why the garages dismissed it. Did they say it was 'normal' ... or 'don't worry about it' (for now) ? Yrwrei could be right about 2.2D's.

Hey man they said its nothing serious just come back if it keeps happening. It happens every time we drive so will have to wait for main dealer. Just I haven't heard something that load not being serious. Not sure but it sleeps to be co.ing from engine leftside. Stops when you.take the foot off or keep just a small bit of pressure on acceleration.

From engine left side with the serpentine belt and tensioner when you open the hood and see the engine? Does it mean from right side when you’re sitting on the driver seat which should be on the right side of the vehicle in Ireland?

If that’s the case, check the belt tensioner first.

Next time you really want to know the DTC code which triggered the “CEL”.

From engine left side with the serpentine belt and tensioner when you open the hood and see the engine? Does it mean from right side when you’re sitting on the driver seat which should be on the right side of the vehicle in Ireland?

If that’s the case, check the belt tensioner first.

Thank you, these days they take the car in the morning and call you the next day charge 190 euro for reseting codes and having a look, tell you it's fine to drive. Really would love an 80's car again

Definitely get a code reader off the amazonians and find out if it's setting codes.

It would help if you could test it when in Park with the hood open and see where it is coming from. If it doesn't do it in Park, that changes the possibilities.

Then I would say it's not the engine. I would be looking at components that spin from the transmission on down the line...

Any vibrations? Odd behaviors?

Based only on limited information, I'll submit my across the world keyboard guess as ...

turbo bearing worn.

Only hearing it "when accelerating" (on boost, turbo spooled)

Not hearing it idle, hood up poking around (no boost, turbo not spooled)

It's oil contaminated with soot and carbon that clogs up the oil pump strainer and wipes out timing chains, oil pump chains, and turbo bearing so don't just replace the turbo, gotta correct the problem that took it out or you'll trash the new one too.

I didn't take it to mean he listened only at idle, but he revved it up while stationary.

If there is no noise when revving engine in Park gear, then, it is NOT the belt tensioner. Mine did when it failed. I heard squeaking sound when revving engine in Park gear.

Seems like something that spins with RPM when in motion. Transmission, axle, etc. I assume that there is no noise when car is stationary.

Shops/dealers don't like to deal with noises. Takes lot of time and might not pay much.
