Noob question - Dealer recommending $1000 tuner replacement

2016 CX-5 The radio comes on fine when the car has been off overnight but not if has been recently driven. Did factory reset, as well as the dealer doing further resets. Dealer recommending $1044.44 plus tax "tuner" replacement. Noob here - what is this part?

Don't know but at the point they wanted $1000, I'd go down my local stereo shop or the Best Buy and see how much they would want for a high end stereo and if they were able to connect it into the Mazda system or if it would be stand alone. If standalone, you would still have the functionality of your nav system(which I don't use) and the system settings.

Sounds like an overheating problem. Does everything else work OK? Like backup camera, settings & apps screens, nav, etc?
You might be able to source a unit from a scrap yard and have dealer or car audio shop install it.

Agree. AM/FM/CD with navigation and
6 speakers cost between $75 and $200 at junkyard. Satellite tuners an extra $150.

Grab a nice Android Auto/Apple CarPlay stereo that is compatible with an iDataLink Maestro RR. I use Kenwoods in my cars, but Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, and JVC also make nice units.
You're going to spend less money, but still have a far, far better and more capable radio than the factory deck could even hope to achieve.

You'll even get full gauges right on your stereo like that! Really is worth the money, and you'll spend less than half of what the stealership wants.

I would first recommend to unplug the battery overnight and see if the problem persists. If so get your battery checked as these Mazdas are finicky with battery going bad. If the above doesn’t work, see below.

For $1k I would recommend going aftermarket. Get a head unit that has car play/android auto. And you’ll still have extra money left over for better speakers/amp and subwoofer.
