February 2019 MNAO sales numbers

2020 Mazda CX5 GTR

Lower Year to Year overall. Lower Year-to-date for everything but CX5 and CX9. 20% increase in CPO sales.

I don't know how much the new 3 will improve those numbers. Given the trend to SUVs I doubt it'll staunch the hemorrhage for more than a few months.

To me, CX5/CX9 numbers mean to me that there's more of a space between the CX5/9 than CX3/5, at least for North America. Even possibly something bigger than CX-9. Maybe get Spinal Tap onboard with a 'This one goes to 11' CX-11 announcement?

Yeah, the best sales February ever for the CX-5 and CX-9. The Mazda 6 is basically dead and the Mazda 3 is not far behind. They need the CX-4 (ie. CX-30) here fast to stop the bleeding. Cars in the USA are dead. Only SUVs from now on.

Maybe... but when gas hits $5/gallon again everyone in a full sized SUV will be dumping them fast.

Or hopefully moving the a Mazda!

Personally, I find the mileage in my CX-9 to be impressive. Granted, I live in a very temperate state that is flat as a pancake but I am getting close to 24 MPG overall, which I find very impressive.

Not knowing anything about CX-9s, that's better than I would have guessed.

i think the reason for declining mazda 3 numbers is due to the fact a new redesigned model is on the horizon.
No one really wants to buy a last year run production model knowing a new one is coming out. I for sure wouldn't.
Unless the new model is hideous...like when the BMW e60 replaced the e39...woah!

CPO sales are what should be impressing everyone. They haven't been less then double digits since I've been reading sales charts. A year minimum.

I was a bit surprised by the 6 figures. At that annualized rate they will only sell as many in a whole year as the Accord does in a month and a half.

Not surprising given that Mazda does not promote the car in any way, at least not here in Canada.
It's a great car, but Accord and Camry buyers don't know it's out there.
I don't understand Mazda's lack of advertising or promotion of this car, considering where it ranks in all the reviews.
It's deserving of more attention from Mazda, and by car shoppers alike.
I cross shopped the others, and then bought the Mazda, and I love it.

Yeah, I don't think there are any 4-door sedans that sell that are not Accord or Camry.

I wonder if extending the warranty would help push new vehicle sales? That's the biggest claim to the CPO program right?

Yes, we've discussed this before, a 100k mile warranty would steal some customers from other brands, just like KIA does, in fact, you could shy away customers from KIA as well.

We're going premium with a better warranty to boot too would be a great shopping incentive to take a really closer look at Mazda...

If you bought a CPO - with correct age and miles - you will get
more bumper to bumper
more powertrain warranty
than a new Mazda.

Go figure - price you pay will be more or less same..

However, sell prices will also need to increase in order to maintain profit margins and compensate for increased warranty claims that will result from longer warranty coverage.

+1 no free lunch

One would wonder if the CX-4 (which is only sold in China so far) would sell better here than the Mazda6. I for one don't want to see sedans go away. However I also understand that the market dictates the demand for products and unfortunately a lot of people are opting to buy CUV/SUVs nowadays.

I just bought a new base Tacoma (third one) but had plan to buy a CX5. I might switch for a CPO end of the year. I won't buy a new one since a new model is right around the corner.

You're assuming CPO sales are cannibalising new car sales though. We don't know the numbers there. How many of these folks are new to the brand?
Also isn't there usually a little premium charged for CPO cars?
