Stays in power curve and normally locks out 5th and 6th gear.
Not sure I understand what you mean.
Does the manual shift not upshift beyond 4th?
(I just added to that list of things to test tomorrow).

Sports mode keeps the vehicle atleast in 4th gear predominantly at higher revs so you are in the optimum power band.
Have a look at this POV drive for more information about this, particularly from 11:42 mark:
Agree on reviewers being totally contradictory.
"Infotainment feels outdated"
Vs
"One of the most intuitive"

Slow response in manual shift mode?
While my previous cars were a manual and an automatic that didn't have any manual mode, I feel that the manual mode in the CX-5 is fantastic, responsive, and helps in the engagement factor. To clear the confusion, you can use it for all gears. Manual mode definitely comes in handy.
I suppose somebody else leaned over and took the photo at 120 mph. Some people wold want you to think the CX-5 is a pig in this department.
Its adequate for the highway. I have no problem merging onto the autobahn.

But if you must know: I took the pic as a passenger in my wife*s CX-5
I love how Sundays ban semi-trucks on the autobahn
Perhaps an overnight test drive? His exact words were "There is a manual mode. But there's a little delay on response. It's not exactly the sportiest thing in the world." But he did not put it through its paces on video. The vid Xeler8ing posted shows just the opposite.
Of course, most things I've asked are easily done away with during a test drive. But there are so many features to test in so many conditions that it's tough to do without actually driving the thing around for at least a day or so...it's so much to cram into a single drive. I walked away with a long list of things to look at next time.

Thanks for that. That helped watching him go between shifting modes.
Every time I watch one of those videos, I feel my checkbook jump out of my pocket.
I was actually wondering about the Manual Shift Mode, and whether keeping the car in 5th @ 80MPH helped acceleration.

Wow ok here you go (sorry everyone else):
1. Do you have 2014 fwd/awd test numbers in the same spec by the same publication?
2. You know probably better than anyone on here that the car has gotten slower and slower with each iteration so to pull out archived 2014 awd numbers when I showed 17 vs 17 in identical spec is complete horseshit and you know it.
3. There's zero reason to think that the diffs that very clearly exist in the 17s didn't equally exist in the superleggera early editions of the 2.5 CX-5.
4. The question here isn't 0-60 or 1/4 (that favors awd grip off the line) its cars already moving punch the throttle where even your superleggera is only a match for the fwd 17 portly model in rolling accel and 50-70
5. Let's make Mazdas247 great again

I used to drive a RAV4 2010 V6. Fast and fun. When I got my CX-5 it was not wild more of quick but as other have mentioned when you reach 80 mph that needle will move a bit slow. Set to sports mode and will you well get a little improvement. Discovered nirvana and I have been driving my CX-5 on manual mode for several months now. Since then I no longer miss my V6 banger. Yes drive your CX-5 on manual and you will enjoy it a lot. You got the right gear when you zoom zoom on those twisties.
I think you just think you get improvement. Sport mode will do nothing for you.
I use it to drown out passenger chatter.![]()
Why must we always assume the worst?I suppose somebody else leaned over and took the photo at 120 mph.
