Nearest Mazda Dealer is 2 hours Away...How Big a Disadvantage?

My favorite recent experience with the dealer was that my rear brake pads expanded.
A previous service measured them at 6mm at 47500mi but at 58,000 miles they grew to 8mm

I bet now at 67,500 they are up to 10mm!

See...that's the magic of Mazda: regenerative brake pads!..makes sense now how they can offer that lifetime warranty on replacements now;) Wonder why the factory fit ones aren't sprinkled w/fairy dust?
My fronts were toast @67,5..rears replaced under stick caliper tsb @36k

On my old protege 5 I got a free light bulb change because the dealer marked on the "full circle" report that they checked the operation of my headlights when 1 of the bulbs was burnt out.
Lol, too funny. My 2014 was in for state inspection last November and the tech put down 7/32 for rear brakes. I damn well know one of the outboard pads was close to 3/32 because of having swapped my snow tires around a few weeks before. My dealership is one of the best I've ever been to, but once in a while you get one of those techs that just isn't with it. He also snapped my lug nut wrench! I have the smaller peanut lugnuts on my winter rims with the splined socket wrench to go with them. Got a free lugnut set with wrench with that one.

Having just come from my Mazda dealer because my daughter's Mazda 6 would not talk to the state at our local inspection garage I think 2 hrs is about right, perhaps a little to close.

The dealer said $80 to adjust your hand brake and we can make all your inspections worries go away wink wink.

Yes, New York State requires that your car talk to them once a year for some reason.

You mean the OBD for emissions inspection? We have that in most places here in Pa. State inspection stations have to be able to access your OBD.

No inspections, no emissions test, nada in this state. Love it...
Yeah...that's not such a great thing. You could be going down a highway and the guy passing you could suddenly have a ball joint disconnect from a control arm because it's worn so much and slam right into you or some one else. Where's the Dirty South, Tennessee? I recall back in the 70s that they had no SI program and seeing cars with no fenders out on the highways..
Has to be some kind of annual safety inspection program in place.

From urban dictionary: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=The Real Dirty South

Again the ONLY states that are in reality considered the dirty south are:
FLORIDA=DIRTY SOUTH
GEORGIA=DIRTYSOUTH
MISSISSIPPI=DIRTY SOUTH
ALABAMA=DIRTY SOUTH

Other states that try to claim but are in fact part of some other crap and not part of the dirty south are:
TEXAS=MIDWEST
TENN=GARBAGE NORTH
CAROLINAS=NORTH EAST
ANY OTHER STATE=GARBAGE

It's not a great thing, it's a wonderful thing. I guess your extreme measure is better than what I normally get on other car forums...they are normally pissed my cars make 30hp more than theirs with very similar mods bc of test pipes and 93-110 octane available at the pump.

That's ******* insane btw, but yeah super convenient- 'specially for the drunk retards doing 90 on 4 baldinis in the rain while binge watching youtube and/or texting. Don't get me wrong, we've plenty of them up here in garbageville usa too but if your s***'s busted up, deemed unsafe for you and more importantly your passengers and other drivers YOU GOTTA FIX IT- period.

No front license plates here either. Bought my 5 outta town, and it sucks I didn't catch the dealer before they put one on. Car was inspected too, so fortunately got the goo off, but unfortunately didn't get outta paying the stupid fee...

An annual safety check is an extreme measure? I'm not talking just emissions here. Do you know what's involved in a state inspection? Checking brakes, suspension, lights, checking chassis integrity for rot, etc. It's only common sense stuff.

Oh I agree. I didn't say some of it wasn't policed. You are def getting pulled and getting a ticket with your example. Insurance rates and anything else you can thing of is low priced here, so something must be working. Insanity, keep on keeping on...

No the ball joint example. A safety check isn't an extreme measure, a money grab, sure, and they had em here when I was a child. Long gone now though. Good riddance...

Texas is not Midwest. Ohio does not approve of bring lumped in with....them. 😀

$21/year (more in some states/areas of NY state) but yeah that's def an egregious money grab...not to say there aren't shady places who'll inevitably 'find' things wrong but you don't pay if you don't pass so if you think its bs you just go someplace else.

We just do emissions test in Ohio. No inspection. If your CEL is off, you pass.

Yeah I don't know anyone who would consider Texas midwest. Texas is its own geographical region.
No comment on Ohio. :)
