Help Me Decide: CX-5 vs. CR-V

I don't mind the shifter as it is pretty much similar to my current 6

Ummmm....calling the CRV cluttered? It's got less buttons and far more touch-screen than the CX-5. I do agree on the wood paneling though, what a terrible thing to have to spend a few bucks on new trim pieces which are likely to be out soon in black, slate, CF, whatever (or just have them wrapped/hydro-dipped yourself)...how much do you think it will cost to retrofit Android/etc to the CX5?

I quite like having the leather boot over a gated shifter. And the button under the front of the shifter isn't sticking out to the side in an overly obvious way. Looks nicer to my eyes. If it weren't for the boot though I do prefer the gate just for some visual interest.

Gated shifters should only be placed in vehicles with 3 pedals. My .02, adjusted for inflation.

Didn't call the CRV anything in terms of its interior. My comment before was about design:

"Looks like it's trying to be a bit futuristic. Also designed by someone with a ruler.

Hey if it floats someone's boat then power to them."

Regarding retrofit AA/AC, if you go by what Mazda have said, apparently a software update is supposed to be all that is needed for existing owners.

Yes, and maybe a 5 bazillion dollar module, like what us CX5 Touring owners got stuck with when our vehicles came "equipped with NAV", lol!

Did the 2016 guys ever get the Life Traffic software update?

For me, not really concerned if Android Auto comes or not. I am not playing around with my smart phone anyway whilst driving.

I take calls and listen to MZD read my SMS(Text messages). I have a USB stick full on songs that I plug into the port when I want some music.

Over here, AFAIK nope.

I don't understand the CRV being cluttered either. Everything is perfectly labeled, easy to access all in one spot. Go look at any modern BMW if you want to see a dash/console that looks cluttered.

I like to rest my hand on the shifter (as if I were driving a stick), and when I use manual mode (which is fairly often), I just like the feel/look of this one better for that.

That's a clean 2014!!

But that's just me. It clearly looks dated/cheaper and takes up way more real estate than the newer ones.

I usually rest my arm on the centre console lid and find that confortable

I rest my arm there too. Its abgood fit for me to have my foresrm ob it amhand resting on the ball. Also i added a leather padded cover from japan that matches the seats.

The sliding top of the arm rest is a nice CRV touch, but we never need it nor extend it.

I'd be very apprehensive about putting any serious weight or pressure on it while extended.

I do the same. Rest my arm on the center console lid and rest that hand on the shifter. It's an excellent fit.

Also, was not a picture of my 2014. I assure you mine is not that clean but also not bad lol!

There she is haha..have to admit new one has a nicer manual mode action so all is not lost!

I def thought so..selling the gloss trim that surrounds it but nice upscale smoothness definitely trumps that of the mpg class leader aka narrowest of margin mt comparo victor.

CRV wins again.

Reviewer sounds like one of the purist of pure CX5 owners who couldnt find anymore excuses to try and put the CX5 on top, even admitting the it towards the end:
"In the past, we lead-footed sports car lovers might have excused the Mazdas deficiencies in exchange for its lusty driving experience. But this time, we have no hesitation in recommending the CR-V to enthusiasts as well as our automotively apathetic friends and family.."

great review.

great review.

Don't forget the very last closing thought:

"It’s a narrow margin of victory, but whether your other car is a Camaro or a Corolla, if you want a compact crossover, you’ll be slightly better served by the new Honda CR-V."

Oh hells no! Looky who comes out the woodwork?

Hahaha. This is hilarious. Red...the past several pages of this thread have all been about that review.

And that's the thing. It's narrow victory.

If you are the typical person that buys a car for certain features, etc. (a Honda buyer), yeah it's probably what you should buy.

If you're like me, and are severely off-put by many aspects of the Honda (looks, CVT, etc.), then the narrow-margin easily puts the CX-5 back on top for people like me.

And people like me. To me it's really no contest as I think most small CUV's look like ass, which is why I wasn't in the market for one. The CX5 looks like the CX9 which I happen to really like, which is what drew me to it in the first place.
