2017 Impressions, Noise Comparison and Our New 2016 GT

I sure hope Mazda doesn't waste that much of their limited resources on paint color, that is ridiculous.

Eh, I think it's a smart marketing move for Mazda. They're tying to compete with Audi, BMW, and Lexus with the CX-5. Good looking paint jobs cost thousands on the German brands, and Mazda is able to produce an absolutely gorgeous paint job that is well on par (and even better than IMO) with most German paint jobs for only $600 extra. I hope they release more special paint jobs in the future.

That red is just mesmerizing. Really growing on me.

Red is normally my least favourite colour but even I have to admit, they nailed it. It's awful purrrrty.

I'll still be getting grey or blue though (rlaugh)

Apparently 1db is a big change in sound, so 3db should be noticeable.

The difference between the 2013 car and 2015 one is also noticeable, with my car tyre noise seems to be the main culprit. Wind direction also makes a difference.

dB is logarithmic, so 3dB is actually huge.

I simply wish Mazda can add one additional interior color such as gray like everybody else. Black and white only interior is not enough to compete with others!

And do you happen to know why in Japan, the maximum horsepower and torque on 2017 CX-5 FWD SA-G 2.5L are 190 PS (187 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 251 N-m (185 lb-ft) @ 3,250 rpm; whereas AWD (4WD) 2.5L are 184 PS (181 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 245 N-m (181 lb-ft) @ 4,000 rpm?

My guess it has to do with either some sort restriction based on tax requirements or actual conditions in Japan?

Here in Australia, the maximum horsepower and torque on 2017 CX-5 G 2.5L AWD is 140KW (190 PS) (187 hp) @ 6,000 rpm and 251 N-m (185 lb-ft) @ 4000 rpm.

We've received the max power and torque figures.

I believe you made a good decision choosing a 2016.5 CX-5 GT to take advantage of much lower price when a new model is coming out. To me, it's a no-brainer to choose a 2016.5 if I don't have one as 2017 is only all-new on the skin but inherited the same power and drive trains. There're many improvements and added features in 2017 but for most part may not be important to a particular buyer.

Recommending Soul Red Crystal for 2017? Yeah it's striking! But for $595? I think I'll still stay with my Sonic Silver! :)

$595/60=$9.91 Whoa! That's a deal breaker! (rlaugh)

Your hearing is logarithmic. To most people, 2 dB is just noticable. TEN db (100 times the wattage!) sounds TWICE as loud. Most consumer audio tone controls adjust by 3 db.

But Mazda's accomplishment is huge. Watch the video where a Mazda presenter details all the tiny things they had to go thru.

Yeah the real truth of course is wife and I really can't see us driving a beautiful Soul Red Crystal CX-5 as we always like silver cars. Otherwise we'd pay for it with any price like we're willing to pay $1,830 for GT Premium Package only for memory seat feature! ;)

A big difference between the CX-5 and Mazda6 was that the Mazda6's hood was much heavier. Have you guys tried lifting the 2017 CX-5's hood and closing it? Did it seam heavier?

I prefer silver cars. Hides dirt and grime more easily meaning less frequent washing.

Current 6 is silver and upcoming CX-5 will also be silver (thumb)

You're right, but they're downright unremarkable. I had one for 7 years

How is the steering at low/parking speeds on the 2017 model. According to one review here, they state "steering strangely heavy at low speeds".

Is that true?

Quite the opposite... the steering is nice and loose at parking lot speeds. I was quite impressed with that.

It tightens up at higher speeds. It's brilliant.
